British Airways Club World Suites, London Heathrow – New-York JFK: When the service is good, the experience is perfect

This was the long-haul segment of my itinerary, taking me back to Boston.

Boarding

When I leave the lounge, the boarding process has just begun and immediately switches to Last Call in the application.

I nervously waited for the automatic shuttle that connects the various concourses in Terminal 5, arriving at the gate just as boarding was almost complete.

I was reassured by the boarding agent who told me to take my time, and I made my way to the jetbridge.

Cabin and welcome

The Club World cabin consisted of some twenty rows of private suites, configured in reverse herringbone and 1-2-1.

Amenities were positioned on the seat: comfortable pillow and duvet/mattress topper.

The comfort kit was also positioned, and although it hasn’t changed in 15 years, it remains complete and successful.

Despite my late boarding, I was offered a welcome drink and enjoyed a glass of champagne.

Menus were also positioned on the seat, and orders were taken on the ground.

We pushed back a few minutes late, and taxi took quite a long time.

Service and catering

First service

The service started a few minutes after the seatbelt lights was turned off.

IMG_5922

The cocktail ordered, a Johnnie Ginger, arrived immediately with a few nuts.

IMG_5925

The cocktail was excellent.

The head purser introduced himself and made sure I was comfortable during the flight. I asked him for another cocktail and he promptly brought it to me.

The tray with the requested appetizer, pea soup, was brought in. It was excellent.

For the main course, the cod was good but the sweet potato purée was too sweet. The Chilean red wine was excellent and I skipped the cheese and dessert.

Rest and cruise

Then I did set up the bedding for a little power nap.

After a 3-hour nap, I went to the galley and asked for a mint tea, which was promptly served. I had some cookies and vanilla ice cream.

Second service

About 1h15 before our arrival in New-York, the purser asked me for my choice of second service, and I asked for the chicken sandwich, with the same cocktail as at lunch.

This tray was quickly brought to me, and the sandwich was excellent.

Arrival and disembarkation

We arrived at the gate on time, after a long taxi on the New York platform.

Passengers before gate 2L disembarked first, and immigration was completely deserted by the time I arrived. I was landside less than 10 minutes after our arrival.

Bottom line

An excellent flight, combining rest and quality catering. With a seat I really appreciated.
