After a short stay inParis and Nancy, I’m off to the Normandy region of my childhood for a few days with my family.
Booking
I booked my itinerary a few weeks before my trip, at the same time as I booked the rest of the itinerary, and through the Trainline application.
It did cost just over €50 one way to make this morning reservation from Paris.
Boarding
Having set off on foot from theIntercontinental Paris Le Grand about 20 minutes before my train, I had to hurry to get to Gare Saint-Lazare, which has looked lovely since its renovation, and head for the Lignes Normandes area on the far right of the station.
Today, my train departed from track 22, but was not displayed at the head of the track.
There was no ticket check on this direct train to Caen, which did not continue to Cherbourg.
Cabin
These are Omneo Premium trainsets ordered by the Normandy region to replace the old Corail trainsets that served the Paris-Le Havre and Paris-Cherbourg lines.
Cars 1 and 2 are First Class duplexes.
I was in one of the “Suites” located right next to the intercirculation between cars 2 and 3.
Before departure, various announcements were made to announce the train’s departure.
Service and catering
On French trains, there is no special service, but on Omneo Premium trains, vending machines are available to serve coffee.
Arrival and disembarkation
We arrived in Caen station on time. Disembarkation was easy, but unfortunately the stairs without escalators were a bit rough when loaded. And the small elevator seemed insufficient to handle the flow of passengers.
Bottom line
A very pleasant journey in really nice, comfortable trains for this distance.
