After a few hours in the Galleries First lounge, it was time to board the plane for New York.
As a reminder, here is the itinerary followed:
Boarding
As the flight leaves from gate B, I leave the lounge 50 minutes before departure, to give me time to take the automatic shuttle without running.
I catch a shuttle just before its departure and arrive at concourse B in a few minutes. Tip: always take the elevator, the escalator ride is horribly long.
So I go to gate B43 where the boarding of priority passengers from zones 1 and 2 is still in progress. I join this line and will quickly be in the feeder. No additional checks will be made at the gate for me.
Cabin and welcome
The reception is quite ordinary and I quickly take my seat… Or rather my suite! A last minute change of aircraft certainly, and I find the BA Club suite that I love so much. What an upgrade!
I settle down comfortably, take out all my electronic gear. v a steady stream of champagne glasses to the passengers who sit and laugh with the flight attendant and… nothing. I feel like I’m transparent. It’s a very, very unpleasant impression for those who have already experienced it (you probably have if you’re not a white, French-speaking male over 45 on Air France in front classes) and it doesn’t put me in a good mood.
So nothing, nothing at all, before takeoff. The comfort kit is handed out at your fingertips, as is the menu. The order taking is done without passion, without obviously prioritizing the Gold passengers or taking the trouble to call us by name. Just horrible, not up to par on a route with such a high yield.
Service and catering
The menu of the day is quite basic, as breakfast is mandatory. I’ll choose a slightly alternative option, which is the pancakes, which will be delicious, like the rest of the meal.
For the drink I will choose a cocktail with whiskey, orange juice and Ginger Ale, which will be exquisite and will go perfectly with the breakfast service.
During the flight, very little interaction with the crew, and no proactive proposals will be made. In the second part of the flight, I will go to the Galley (where I think I disturbed the crew who was chatting…) to ask for some chips (almost out of stock) and a coffee. Coffee will be brought to me at headquarters with a Shortbread cookie.
Then comes the second service served on this flight. I will choose the scotch egg which will be very good.
In short, a service in half-tone.
Arrival and disembarkation
We arrive at the gate about 15 minutes ahead of schedule. Nevertheless, the line at immigration for non-citizens will be endless, and it will take me more than an hour and a half to reach Kristof landside. Shameful for a country like the USA!
Bottom line
A welcome upgrade but an unworthy service on board.
