After 3 intense days in France, it was time to head back to Boston.
Check-in and ground course
Around 30 hours before the departure of the first flight on my itinerary to Paris, I checked in via the Air France app for my two flights. For the second flight from Lyon, I bought a paid upgrade for €59. I then retrieved my Passbook boarding passes.
I left my family’s home about 1h45 before my flight to Lyon, using line 3 of the Twisto bus network in Caen, which terminates at the airport.
When I arrived, the check-in counters were not yet open, although they were a few minutes later. After a few minutes, I was processed by a check-in agent and my suitcase was checked through to Paris Charles-de-Gaulle. I was given my boarding pass for both flights, and a priority tag was affixed to my baggage.
Note that this queue was marked SkyPriority, but that a cordon blocked access to it from the terminal’s public area.
The security checkpoint was deserted and the agents very friendly. I then waited about thirty minutes in the terminal before boarding began.
Boarding
Boarding began 5 minutes early at gate E. The beauty of provincial airports.
SkyPriority passengers were called first, and I was the second on board.
Cabin and welcome
The Embraer 190s used for domestic flights is configured as a single Economy cabin… although this doesn’t change much in terms of seating, since Air France doesn’t block the adjoining seat in Business configuration on these aircraft.
The welcome was courteous and I quickly settled into 01A, my seat for this short trip to Lyon.
We left the gate 5 minutes ahead of schedule.
Service and catering
The service starts a few minutes after the seatbelt lights is turned off. But as I tried to free the shelf of the adjoining seat so that I could work while sipping a drink, the shelf fell on the floor when I tried to free it!
The cabin attendant apologized profusely and secured the shelf in the galley.
This time I had a cappuccino with a glass of water, which was served with a basket of wrapped shortbreads, which I did not enjoy.
Arrival and disembarkation
We arrived at the parking point 15 minutes ahead of schedule. The jetbridge took a little time to set up, and it was hot when we disembarked!
Bottom Line
A very solid regional flight. Admittedly, the basic offer is poor, but very well executed.
