Intercontinental Paris Le Grand: Timid upgrade but perfect service

For my Paris stay, and while my Marriott Ambassador renewal is ensured for 2023, I decided to break my piggy bank of IHG points to stay at the Intercontinental Paris Le Grand for two nights.

Booking

I made my reservation a few weeks before my stay via the IHG app. The amount in points was 120,000 points per night, for a public rate of €950 per night. Great value for points spent.

Arrival

After a very long Uber ride from Paris Charles-de-Gaulle, I arrived at the Intercontinental reception late in the afternoon.

However, I had to wait a good fifteen minutes before being taken care of by a receptionist, all of whom were mobilized by customers requiring rather lengthy assistance.

The process was very professional. I was given an arrival letter, and an upgrade to a Classic Room with Balcony was confirmed. I got confirmation that the room had a king bed, not twin beds, which it did.

I wastold that as a Diamond member, I would be offered a full breakfast at the Café de la Paix, and that my room was located in the Scribe wing (which I particularly appreciate for its calm).

Room

My classic room was located on the 4th floor of the hotel, in the Scribe wing.

It was not far from the elevators, which was a real advantage in this hotel where the corridors are very long.

The door opened onto a vestibule, which in turn leaded to the night area.

To the left was the closet, which included a safe.

Opposite was the king-size bed, which was very comfortable.

To the right, a desk with a lamp and espresso machine, an armchair and coffee table on which a generous welcome amenity had been laid out, and finally a TV overlooking the well-stocked minibar.

Finally, a door opened onto the bathroom with its elegantly renovated toilet, shower-bath and washbasin.

The whole was very elegant in blue tones, which I liked.

Finally, the virtual tour:

Hotel facilities

The hotel is equipped with a spa and fitness room, which I unfortunately did not use during my stay. However, you can find some photos of them in a previous report.

Catering

The hotel’s main restaurant is the Café de la Paix, a legendary Parisian establishment located Place de l’Opéra.

Breakfast Service – Café de la Paix

I had breakfast twice at the Café de la Paix.

After being seated at one of the tables, a waiter took my order of hot drinks and invited me to use the buffet.

An excellent and varied buffet. I had a selection of smoked salmon and cheeses.

The service was traditional French and attentive.

Service

Apart from the long wait at check-in, the hotel’s service was top-notch, with very professional interactions throughout the stay, including with the Café de la Paix staff at breakfast.

Departure

Departure formalities were straightforward but a little lengthy.

Bottom line

A very good stay for a clever use of my IHG points.
