KLM lounge Amsterdam Schengen area: good but very crowded

The KLM lounge in the Schengen area in Amsterdam is far from unpleasant, but I do have one criticism: some areas are very crowded, which detracts a little from the experience.

Despite the delay of my flight from Paris, I was still able to spend an hour or so in the KLM lounge. As far as I can remember, I hadn’t been there since at least the COVID outbreak, and in any case not since it was renovated, which was even longer ago. It almost felt like discovering a new lounge.

You will find a summary of the articles on these holidays in Singapore and Bali at the bottom of the page.

Lounge location

The lounge is located upstairs in the middle of the Schengen side shopping area, which means that, given the layout of the airport, it may be quite far from your departure gate.

Eligibility

The lounge applies the airline’s traditional rules and is therefore accessible:

• Passengers traveling in business class on a Skyteam airline.

• Flying Blue members with Gold status or higher.

• Members of other SkyTeam airlines’ loyalty programs with Elite Plus status and on a Schengen flight connected to an international flight.

Layout and design

It is a large lounge, divided into several areas.

Areas with stools and high tables for working.

A much denser, even overly dense “lounging” section.

IMG_1068

More airy and isolated spaces.

A dining area.

And finally, a last space that is also more suitable for people who want to work.

All in all, it’s a rather cozy lounge, although I do find that passengers are quite crammed in some places. Furthermore, even though efforts have been made with indirect lighting, it receives almost no natural light and is a little dark for my taste.

Catering

When I visited, breakfast was being served.

Cold cuts, cheese, vegetables, and pastries.

Fruit, milk, and cereal.

Mushrooms, meatballs, potatoes, beans, and scrambled eggs.

And finally, soups.

As for drinks, wine is available.

IMG_1093

A fairly comprehensive selection of alcoholic beverages and fruit juices.

IMG_1094

The usual soft drink fountain.

And, of course, a machine for hot drinks.

Quite varied and rich, but average in terms of originality and quality.

Atmosphere

Even though the lounge was far from full when I was there, it gave the opposite impression with areas where passengers were quite crowded together, and I won’t even mention the people making video calls in the middle of the lounge without headsets!

Facilities

The lounge has toilet and shower facilities.

Bottom line

A convenient and efficient lounge, but not necessarily the most pleasant. More like a train station concourse than a lounge
