Another excellent stay at the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Gothenburg, a hotel I appreciate for its location and spa, which surprised me with an unexpected upgrade.
I was wondering whether it was worth writing an article about this stay. I’m starting to become a regular at this hotel and I’ve already had the opportunity to try almost all of their suite types, so unless something exceptional happened, I didn’t really see what else I could say. And that something did indeed happen, even though I wouldn’t have bet a penny on it.
You will find a summary of the articles on these holidays in Singapore and Bali at the bottom of the page.
Booking
I booked a junior suite several months before my trip at a rate of 233 euros per night. Knowing the local prices, I was pleasantly surprised by the rate.
The day before my arrival, I noticed that I had been upgraded to a corner suite. My status does entitle me to this type of upgrade, but Radisson is generally quite stingy in this regard, and Scandinavian countries even more so, so I was more than pleasantly surprised.
I think it must be the ‘balcony suite’ I had on one of my previous stays. It won’t be a new experience, but it’s very pleasant, and at least it’s the middle of summer, so I’ll be able to enjoy the balcony more than last time when it was the middle of winter.
But I wasn’t done with surprises yet.
Location of the hotel
The hotel is located in the city centre, in the historic pedestrianised area, almost opposite the train station.
I find the location very convenient, but in any case, given the size of the city, wherever you stay, you are almost always within walking distance of all the interesting places.
Arrival at the hotel and check-in
I arrive at the hotel in an Uber in the middle of the afternoon. The queue at reception is long and I don’t see a priority queue (actually there was one but it wasn’t clearly signposted).
It’s the holidays, I’m in a good mood, and I won’t take offence.
It’s finally my turn. As usual, the staff are extremely friendly and the receptionist thanks me for my loyalty to the property and tells me that I have been given a ‘very nice upgrade’ with a wink.
I respond with a smile and reiterate that ‘small’ upgrades are already so rare in the region that this is really good news.
I say goodbye, and go to my room.
The Royal Suite at the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Gothenburg
Knowing which room to expect, I walked slowly down the long corridor and there… surprise! I wasn’t expecting to see that written on the door. I had the royal suite, the largest in the hotel.
It is indeed a very nice upgrade.
I enter through a small hallway with toilets on the right.
I come out into a large living room.
You have to like the style, but I think it’s quite pretty.
On my right is a large dining room.
And on the side, a kitchenette.
I retrace my steps, cross the living room and find a kind of office and a few chairs.
I often complain about the lack of space to work in some hotels, so I am delighted.
I finally head towards the sleeping area, where I find a second desk.
Just behind it is a large wardrobe.
Finally, we come to the bedroom.
Very nice and comfortable!
All that’s left to discover is the bathroom. It has a bathtub…
as well as a large shower….
and a sauna…
And of course there are toilets.
What more is there to say? A huge, comfortable room, which I found very attractive. I asked about it: it is 160 m² and costs €2,500 per night. So for the £233 I spent, I got an excellent deal.
We end with the video visit.
Bars and restaurants
The hotel has a restaurant that I have never tried and a bar in the atrium next to the lobby.
Not much to say except that the staff are friendly but a bit slow.
Facilities
The hotel has a fairly well-equipped gym, but I won’t be using it during my stay.
However, I will definitely use the spa, which is one of the reasons I stay here regularly. There is a charge for this, except for guests who have booked a suite.
I like both the design and its relaxing feel.
I won’t go into any more detail as I have already discussed this in length in my previous articles about this hotel.
Service and staff
Very friendly and efficient, no complaints.
Check-out
I will check out quickly before I leave without going back to reception.
Bottom line
Undeniably one of the most beautiful upgrades and one of the largest rooms I have ever had. A short stay but an excellent memory.
