Aloft Singapore Novena: convenient when you’re in transit

The Aloft Singapore Novena offers very good quality at affordable prices, especially when you consider the prices in Singapore, provided you don’t mind being far from the city center. But it’s convenient if you don’t want to be too far from the airport.

For my first night in Singapore before returning ten days later, I didn’t need a high-end hotel in Singapore, but rather something affordable and close to the airport, as I would be arriving in the late afternoon and leaving early the next morning. This Aloft, located between the two, was therefore perfect.

You will find a summary of the articles on these holidays in Singapore and Bali at the bottom of the page.

Location of the hotel

There are, of course, hotels around the airport, but none belonging to Marriott, so this Aloft, located halfway between the airport and downtown, was perfect for my needs.

Allow between 15 and 30 minutes depending on traffic from the airport, but it’s much better than having to deal with traffic jams to get back into town.

Novena is an upscale residential neighborhood with shops and good transportation links. This may be an option if you want to avoid the generally expensive hotels in the city center.

Booking

I booked a “Breezy” room several weeks before my trip at €138 per night and found out the day before my arrival that I had been upgraded to an “Urban” room.

Arrival at the hotel and check-in

I checked in online the day before and arrived late afternoon by taxi from the airport.

The reception is very Aloft-style and there aren’t many people at the counter.

The welcome is very friendly and cordial, but the loyalty program protocol is completely overlooked. I take my key and head for the elevators… it doesn’t work, so I go back to have it reissued. I am told that “these things happen.”

The second time will be the charm.

The room

It is located on the 11th floor of 17.

Once you enter, you will find toilets and showers on the side.

Then the room itself. Nice design and decent size, nothing more.

IMG_9666

There is a small table and a kind of bench that I can use to put my suitcase on.

IMG_9667

A rare feature in many hotels nowadays, the bedside table contains a fully stocked mini bar.

IMG_9669

Nice and functional, although I’m not sure what the upgrade is. Maybe the floor or the view…

IMG_9670

Actually, the view… nothing special.

IMG_9672

In any case, it’s a room that perfectly suits my needs.

Bar and restaurant

The hotel has a bar in the lobby and a restaurant.

I’ll go have a drink at the bar.

IMG_9694

But you can also sit at a table in the lobby.

The cocktail menu looks interesting, but I’ll just have a beer and a snack.

IMG_9701

I won’t be going to the restaurant, but at first glance it looks good for this type of hotel.

IMG_9698

If I hadn’t eaten so much on the flight, I would definitely have been tempted.

IMG_9708

By scooping out the durian roll, of course.

Facilities

The hotel has a gym and a swimming pool.

The gym is located on the same floor as the pool and overlooks it.

IMG_9675

The size is right and it’s pretty well equipped.

IMG_9676

Outside there is a large terrace with deck chairs.

IMG_9677

And of course, the pool

IMG_9682

It is really large and long and offers a lane for those who want to swim laps without being bothered by those who are just swimming for fun.

IMG_9683

The hotel seen from the pool.

IMG_9686

The staff

Efficient and friendly.

Bottom line

A pleasant and functional hotel for those who don’t want to go into town and don’t want to spend too much.
