Air France La Première lounge at Roissy: truly a cut above the rest

The Air France La Première lounge at Roissy is undeniably not only by far the best lounge of the airline at Roissy, but also, in my opinion, one of the best in the world in this category. This experience only reinforced the excellent memory I already had of it.

It’s not easy to compare the first class products of different airlines. They all make such an effort that it often comes down to details, and in the end everyone has their own preferences, with varying degrees of objectivity. However, when it comes to ground service, I think there’s not much debate and that the service offered at Roissy is what sets Air France apart from all its competitors.

You will find a summary of the articles on these holidays in Singapore and Bali at the bottom of the page.

Lounge location

It is located in Terminal 2E-K just after security, on the upper floor, but that is not an important factor.

If you are departing from Paris, you will check in at a dedicated lounge, then an Air France agent will escort you to the lounge via a specific route where you will pass through immigration and security separately from other passengers.

If you are connecting to another flight, the agent will pick you up by car at the foot of your plane and take you to the lounge.

In all cases, when you leave the lounge to board your flight, you will also be accompanied by car to the aircraft.

In my case, a Porsche SUV picked me up when my flight arrived from Gothenburg.

Important point: the lounge has its own passport and security checks. The agent accompanying me will therefore take my passport and go through the formalities without me having to do anything.

Lounge layout and design

It is made up of several areas.

The first is a large, very comfortable area with well-spaced seats.

Right next door is a smaller, more intimate space where I usually prefer to sit.

There is a restaurant area, which we will discuss later.

Further on, there is a rest area.

And the toilets and showers, which I often say are larger than some Parisian flats.

IMG_9421

Really very pretty and, above all, very quiet given how few people pass by each day.

Catering

In the dining area, you will find high-quality snacks available for self-service.

But the most interesting feature is, of course, the restaurant, which is run by chef Alain Ducasse’s staff.

Once seated, I am given the menu.

For my starter, I chose the poultry and duck foie gras pâté en croûte.

IMG_9464

Truly a treat. The poultry is tender and very well marinated. At first, I wonder if there isn’t a hint of truffle, which the waiter confirms. It’s the chef’s ‘special touch’. The foie gras is also delicious.

It is light, fresh and very tasty.

For the main course, nostalgia makes me lean towards the ham and black truffle coquillettes, but I’m also tempted by the chicken croque with Comté cheese and black truffle.

The server will resolve my dilemma by offering me a combination of both.

IMG_9466

The coquillettes are Alain Ducasse’s signature dish and a must in the lounge, which I succumb to every time. Truly delicious, I could eat entire plates of them. Indescribable, unique, symbolic.

IMG_9468

The croque is also very good, but the truffle flavour is less pronounced.

I accompanied this meal with glasses of Cote Rotie.

IMG_9463

I will then return to my seat in the lounge and order a few drinks.

First, some champagne.

IMG_9433

A very good Jeeper blanc de noirs, but a little disappointing compared to what I had been served on previous visits and, moreover, not up to the standard of what is offered on flights. Strange.

I’ll also try the Ducasse Negroni: not bad, balanced and subtle in its own way, but I prefer the real one, which is stronger.

For your information, there are no self-service drinks other than water: everything must be ordered from the staff and will be served at your table.

Facilities

The lounge has toilets, showers and a Sisley spa where you can book treatments. I do miss the days when it was Biologique Recherche…

Private suites can also be booked (additional charge).

Staff

5-star hotel or 3-star restaurant quality service.

On the other hand, the Air France agent who was assisting me was extremely friendly.

Atmosphere

Very quiet and relaxing.

Bottom line

While travelling in La Première is always a unique experience, the lounge at Roissy plays a major role in this experience. To date, I have never found a comparable experience elsewhere in terms of quality and exclusivity.
