Aloft Boston Seaport District: simple and friendly

The Aloft Boston Seaport District offers a very good quality service for a property of this range and its only flaw is perhaps its location, which also makes it affordable compared to the rates charged in the city.

For this second visit to Boston before returning to France, I decided to stay in the same neighbourhood, the Seaport District, as it is easy to get to from the airport and close to Olivier’s place, and the rates, although very (too?) high, are much less prohibitive than those charged downtown.

You will find the summary of the articles on this trip to Boston, New York and New Orleans at the bottom of the page.

Booking

I booked a standard room several weeks before my stay at a price of 254 euros per night. It may seem expensive, especially for an Aloft, but for Boston in the middle of summer it was a good deal.

Location of the hotel

It is located in the Seaport District, a new and lively neighbourhood that is on the up. It has the advantage of being served by the Silver Line, which serves both the airport and the city centre, so it’s very convenient for me.

However, it is a little further away than the Westin and you should allow a good ten minutes to reach the station, a little more if you are carrying a suitcase.

Check-in and arrival at the hotel

I check in online the day before and, while I am still in New Orleans, I receive a message telling me that my room is ready and assigned, that my key has been downloaded to the app and therefore I won’t have to go through reception when I arrive.

For once, it was not possible to request a late check-out on the app, so I went to reception anyway to try my luck… to no avail.

The room

Nothing looks more like an Aloft than another Aloft and just walking down the corridor I feel like I’m on familiar territory.

My room is on the 13th and top floor.

I go through the door and the bathroom is on the side.

IMG_8982

Large shower and clean and functional for the rest.

IMG_8983

Then the room itself. Quite large, functional, no frills: this is Aloft.

IMG_8984

The bedding is good without being exceptional, but it is consistent with the hotel’s standard.

IMG_8986

It has a large desk, which I really appreciate.

IMG_8985

As for the view… we’ve seen better.

IMG_8990

There you have it: a simple, practical room. That’s the Aloft promise, and it’s kept.

Bar and restaurant

The hotel has a bar and a restaurant.

The bar

It is located in the pretty and very lively lobby.

IMG_9037

Great atmosphere, very friendly staff and you can also order snacks.

IMG_8995

The restaurant

It is quite rare to find a restaurant in an Aloft, let alone one of this standard, as the hotel offers a Brazilian meat restaurant that is clearly renowned.

Its setting is in stark contrast to that of the hotel.

IMG_9001

We had lunch there with Olivier and his wife.

The meal begins with a huge, high-quality buffet, the purpose of which, in my opinion, is to spoil your appetite for what follows.

This is just a brief overview.

Then the serious stuff begins.

The waiters come to you to offer you different cuts of meat, which they slice and serve in front of you as much as you like.

IMG_9025

Needless to say, we had a great time and I had my fill many times over.

IMG_9026

Really excellent, well beyond my expectations, and the staff were great.

I would add, for all intents and purposes, that there is a snack stall near the reception.J’ajouterai à toutes fins utiles qu’il y a un étal de snacks en vente près de la réception.

Facilities

the hotel has a gym and a swimming pool.

The gym

Properly equipped but very busy and in the end there is not enough room.

IMG_8997

The Pool

Unfortunately, it was not open at the early hour when I wanted to try it out.

IMG_8998

The service

Very friendly at the bar and in the restaurant, average at reception.

I should add that on the day of my departure, the cleaning lady started knocking on all the rooms at 8 a.m., being turned away everywhere, of course. But it was very unpleasant for the guests, who were woken up early in the morning when they had planned to sleep in (it was a Sunday).

Check-out

I will check out on the mobile app and leave my luggage at reception until I leave for the airport before going to meet Olivier at the restaurant.

Bottom line

A good hotel that gives you what you expect, even a little more when I think of the restaurant and the swimming pool when it’s open. It’s still expensive for an Aloft but it’s affordable compared to the rates charged there.
