I arrive at the JW Marriott Singapore South Beachfrom Changi Airportafter my flight from Kuala Lumpur.
As a reminder, here is the itinerary followed:
Booking
I proceeded to the reservation of this hotel concomitantly to the reorganization of this trip with the addition of the tag to Kuala Lumpur, that is to say3 months before my arrival.
I made this reservation with the Marriott Bonvoy appfor just over S$300 a night, or about £150. A reasonable ratefor the city-state, traditionally expensive for hospitality (and not only for hospitality).
A few days after booking,I noticed an upgrade, very early, to a Deluxe Suite. Perfect!
In parallel and given the late departure of my flight back to Europe, I request the use of Your24, one of the real advantages of Ambassador status at Marriott Bonvoy. This will be granted quickly with a check-in/check-out time of 8pm.
Arrival
I arrive in the early afternoon at the hotel, by subway from the airport.
In spite of my request to use Your24 and thus my theoretical check-in at 8pm, I was allowed to take possession of my room as soon as it was ready.
All the registration formalities are nevertheless carried out in a very professional and courteous manner.
I am told, as I had noticed in the application, the upgrade to Deluxe Suite is confirmed, my passport checked and my card imprint taken.
Until my room is ready, I’ll beworking at the Club Lounge.
Room
TheDeluxe Suite I was assigned was located on the10th floor of the property, at the corner of the property.
Upon entering,a guest toiletis available on the right. It is equipped with a Japanese toilet and a hand wash basin
Then comes a closet, also for guests and for shoes.
The main room is rather small, witha desk facing the view, a leather sofa and armchair and a large coffee table.
A television blocks the beautiful view available, a bit of a shame.
A small kitchen is accessible from the lounge, with a refrigerator and some storage furniture.
A corridor leads to the night area. On the left, the bathroom, spacious, with a shower, a separate toilet, a bathtub and two toilet basins facing each other. The whole is bathed in light.
Still in this hallway and still on the right,a large closet, in which is the safe.
Finally, at the end of this hallway, the bedroom, with a small meridian and alarge king size bed. The connectivity at the edge of the bed is just perfect with universal plug + 2 USBon each side. Little things that seem insignificant but are so important when you spend 150 nights a year in hotels.
Finally, the video tour:
Hotel facilities
The hotel, as often in Asia, is equipped like a resort. So it has a fitness room, an outdoor pool and a full spa, which unfortunately I won’t have time to visit this time.
Fitness room
The hotel’s fitness room is located on its rooftop, on the 18th floor of the property. It is accessible through a door leading directly to this rooftop.
The equipment is extensive and state of the art and I will be doing a long elliptical session.
Pool
Still on the rooftop, the pool is rather small, but faces the beautiful skyline of Singapore. Beware, for those who enjoy the heat, the temperature is very, very cool, surely because the sun does not hit this totally sheltered pool.
No deckchairs either, the area is really made for a short splash.
Catering
The hotel has many restaurants that I won’t have time to try all of them. It is also located in a commercial area that has others, and faces the mythical Raffles, home of the Singapore Sling.
The Executive Lounge welcomes Platinum members and above for 3 sessions during the day, with breakfast currently served in the main restaurant
Executive Lounge
The Executive Lounge is located on the 2nd floor of the property, across a small walkway to the elevators.
The reception is always very good, the staff remembering you from passage to passage.
The design is nevertheless questionable, early 2000s but aging a bit. Especially the transparent fluorescent panels, really out of fashion.
Afternoon Tea
The afternoon tea is served from 2:30 to 4:30 pm.
It is of good quality, especially the fresh scones that will make me happy. On the other hand the clotted cream, is not really in the rules of art…
The sandwiches will be quite good, and the serviceabsolutely attentive and perfect.
Evening Hors d’Oeuvre & Cocktail Hour
The happy hour is rather generous, running from 5:30 to 9:00 pm, with catering until 7:30 pm.
The alcohols served are rather Premium for a Club Lounge, and I’ll take some vodka tonic served generously.
The catering is not overlooked with a station of noodles cooked on demand (absolutely delicious), a hot or cold buffet. I will make a small selection having a dinner planned afterwards.
The service is very warm and attentive, I appreciate it!
Akira Back – Dinner
On the day of my arrival at the hotel, I booked via the Marriott Bonvoy chat a table at the hotel’s signature Japanese restaurant, Akira Back for 9pm. It is indicated that there is only room for a high table, which I accept.
I arrive at the restaurant shortly before 9pm. Some space has been freed up for a low table, so I take one of the tables near the entrance.
La carte est assez courte mais hyper intéressante.
I will order one of the signature dishes, the tuna and truffle sashimi pizza, a delight.
Then, an assortment of sushi nigiri absolutely delicious, especially the fatty tuna which will be succulent.
Beach Road Kitchen – Breakfast
Breakfast is served in the hotel’s all day dining restaurant, located in the building in front of the hotel (actually below the Club Lounge). It’s not easy to get that you have to leave the hotel to have breakfast if you don’t know.
The buffet is huge and very qualitative. The coffee service is done at the table and refills are constantly offered.
Local options are featured and once again delicious.
Departure
I will leave, as agreed, at 8pm on the day of check-out. This may seem trivial, but I never had to redo my keys, the access was programmed this way from the start and it avoids unnecessary waste of time.
Bottom line
An excellent, if too short, stay at what is probably one of the best Marriott properties in the city-state. We’ll return!
