ALoft Birmingham Eastside: Superb value for money

To round off our trip, we stayed one night at the Aloft Birmingham Eastside, located near the center of England’s second city.

As a reminder, here is the itinerary followed:

Today’s itinerary

Booking

We made our reservation at this hotel almost a month before our arrival.

Filtering through pet-friendly hotels, there wasn’t much choice left in Birmingham, and my wife and I are particularly fond of the Aloft concept. So at £50 a night, we decided to go for it!

Arrival

After a 6-hour drive from Scotland, we arrive at the hotel in the late afternoon.

The lobby is beautifully decorated

The whole thing smells like new, and it’s very pleasant.

The hotel does not have its own parking lot, but plenty of parking is available in the vicinity. We find one nearby and can unload all our junk before proceeding with check-in formalities.

A small takeaway store is available to customers
IMG_5788
As well as a small Business Center, always useful for printing documents during your trip – a must nowadays in COVID times.

Several lounging areas near the bar

As usual, we’re told that suites are not available for passengers with pets, but we’re assigned a nice room with a view. So be it. We choose breakfast as an Ambassador benefit, and decline the Late check-out offer.

Room

Our room was on the 5th floor of the building. The corridors “smell like new” and it’s very pleasant.

Our room was located near the elevators. I don’t think there’s anything special about our room, other than a clear view of the city and in-room amenities such as a bathrobe and Nespresso machine.

The view towards the city is quite unobstructed

The courtesy tray is very well stocked

The mugs are branded in the brand’s colors

At the entrance, on the left, you’ll find a convenient closet, as well as a bathroom with a large shower, a washbasin opposite, and a toilet on the left.

IMG_8514
The washbasin is positioned on a very spacious shelf
IMG_8512
The shower is very spacious and pleasant

Opposite is the bedroom proper, with the TV and desk on the right, and the king-size bed on the left.

The king-size bed is very comfortable
IMG_8510
The TV is huge

Connectors are just perfect, but that’s what you’d expect from a modern hotel of this standing. They had thought of everything for our dog, as a bed was provided as well as bowls.

IMG_8521
Excellent connectors (2 sockets and 2 USB on each side of the bed)
IMG_8511
Our pooch has his own space and branded Aloft elements

Everything was ready for our Golden Retriever when we arrived.

To finish, a video tour:

Hotel facilities

The hotel is equipped with a fitness room, located on the second floor of the property. The latter is quite spacious, even if there is little equipment.

IMG_5801
The fitness room equipment is fairly modern…
IMG_5802
… But space remains limited
IMG_5803
Towels are provided
IMG_5804
A space for free weights is also provided

Food options

The hotel has two food and beverage outlets: the bar, located in the hotel lobby, offers a snack menu as well as an extensive drinks menu. There’s also a restaurant, which wasn’t yet fully open when we arrived, but in which breakfast is served.

The bar is very elegant

Breakfast service

Breakfast is served in the hotel’s main restaurant. The hotel was still in soft opening when we arrived, which meant a fairly limited flow of guests. There were no more than a dozen of guests in the dining room during the entire service.

IMG_5821
I’m impressed by the restaurant’s decor

When I arrive, the hostess takes me straight to my table. Very good point, which I didn’t necessarily expect in a hotel of simple standing like this one.

IMG_5822
Numerous spaces with very different configurations to meet all types of needs
IMG_5824

The decor is extremely tasteful and up to date, and the service perfect.

IMG_5823
The tables were all set despite the modest attendance.

The buffet, though modest in size, offers ingredients of fairly good quality, with a perfectly acceptable hot offer, a decent bread offer, and a cold offer that complements the hot offer in a decent way.

IMG_5831
Medium-quality scrambled eggs
IMG_5829
Les hash browns seront parfaits
IMG_5830
I’d skip the tomatoes, but not the mushrooms.
IMG_5828
I don’t really like English bacon, but the sausages will do the job.
IMG_5832
Great continental selection to complement the hot buffet
IMG_5833
All you need to make a good muesli
IMG_5827
Good quality bread and pastries
IMG_5826
A few cereals for fans

Several coffee machines for special coffees and a wide range of juices are available.

The excellent coffee machine
IMG_5825
Juices will be of good quality

All in all, a top-quality offering for a budget hotel.

Departure

Departure formalities will be very simple, and we’ll receive the invoice by e-mail a few minutes after our departure.

Bottom line

An excellent experience and unbeatable value for money, what more could you ask for?
