Plaza Premium lounge in Langkawi: minimalist but nice catering

The Plaza Premium lounge at Langkawi airport offers minimalist comfort but catering served at the table and has the merit of existing.

What a surprise when I arrived at the Langkawi airport and discovered a premium Plaza lounge! Indeed, during my previous stays here, the only lounge available was the one that welcomed the guests of the St Regis Langkawi and the Westin Langkawi!

It is located Airside and while passing in front I notice its exiguity. It is not a priority pass but is available to Amex Platinum holders. But after my check-in it turns out that Malaysia Airlines also sends its business class and Elite passengers there.

You will find at the bottom of the page the articles about this trip in Malaysia.

Lounge location

Langkawi’s Plaza Premium lounge is located in the departures hall before arriving at the check-in counters, opposite the security checkpoints.

You will have to pass through security to get to the boarding lounge. Anyway, you will see that this is not a lounge where you will hang out too long.

Eligibility

It is at least available to Priority Pass members, Malaysia Airlines Elites and Business passengers and Amex Platinum (non-cobranded) holders. There may be other cards that give access, I didn’t pay too much attention.

Lounge layout

It is quite small and consists of a single room, with a screen in the first part that allows you to isolate yourself a little.

At the far end of the room you will find not the buffet but the kitchens, as the lounge has an à la carte served at the table offer.

On the other hand, the air conditioning is provided by two large units located at the entrance of the lounge and near the kitchen. It is very noisy and totally inefficient: the heat will be very unpleasant.

Catering

A menu shows the available dishes that can be ordered from the kitchen. You can either wait and leave with it or you can be served in the room.

I’ll have the grilled chicken. Not very hearty but good!

On the drinks side, there is a fridge with some softs (and unappetizing fruit trays) and a coffee machine. I couldn’t find still water.

I would like to serve myself a tea, a kettle is available at the kitchen counter.

Facilities

The lounge has toilet and shower facilities.

Atmosphere

Quite quiet when I arrived, then full and noisy.

Bottom line

A lounge that has the merit of existing and that’s all. There would not be the offer of a la carte food it would not have any interest.
