JW Marriott Singapore: luxury and Singaporean efficiency

Due to a long connection in Singapore I spent one night at the JW Marriott South Beach Singapore. Why this hotel? Our experiences in Singapore show that not surprisingly the hotel business in Singapore is expensive with rates not necessarily justified when you are only staying for one night. I was about to opt for the Wanderlust when I remembered that I had Suite Night Awards (vouchers for automatic suite upgrades) to “burn” before the end of the month. So you might as well take a hotel that offers this kind of room and where the experience would be worth it. Hence this JW Marriott that I had not yet tried.

Arrival at the hotel and check-in

The arrival is very easy from Singapore Changi airport, anyway the traffic in Singapore is rarely a problem and cabs and VTC are about the only thing cheap in the city state.

The hotel is well located, a few minutes walk from the historic center, next to the Raffles, overlooking a shopping mall where you will find many restaurants.

A photo of the hotel and the gallery taken at night:

A really imposing complex that I will unfortunately not have the chance to explore too much.

The lobby is high-ceilinged but on a human scale, without giving the unpleasant impression of a station hall that we too often have.

I had done the mobile check in on the SPG mobile app so my check in will be quick. They confirmed that I was in a “premier suite” for the price of a standard room and they were sorry that I was staying so short. They explain to me all the benefits to which I am entitled, the layout of the hotel. I am pleased to find what I like in Singapore: quality of service but with sobriety and efficiency.

I am then escorted through the corridors to my suite.

The room opens onto a small entrance with a toilet. Then the living room.

I do not really fall under the charm of the decoration but I have already seen much worse in modern. At least it looks better at night.

Then the bedroom…

From the window I see the Raffles, still under construction.

It offers a large shower and a bathtub.

The visit in video to finish.

As a bonus, a delicate attention from the management was waiting for me.

A quick overview

Given the brevity of my stay I will not be able to explore all the charms of the hotel. It proposes several restaurants that I will not try because of a lack of appetite after a 14hrs flight and a late afternoon arrival which was my biological morning.

A “Gin Bar” is also available.

The top floor offers a superb swimming pool and a huge bar area that goes around the building.

On the other hand some lightness in the service not acceptable at this level: when in the morning you find the tables of the day before not cleared the experience is average.

A very nice lounge

Instead of the hotel’s restaurants and bars, I’ll go to the lounge open to suite and platinum guests.

Very nice setting.

Again, in my opinion, a lounge that breaks the business of the hotel’s restaurants.

A beautiful spa, a crowded gym

My platinum status gives me free access to the spa, so I didn’t hesitate to go to bed before going to sleep, just to make the 14 hours flight go by.

It is in a second building that is accessed by an aerial walkway.

After the reception I am escorted along a long corridor.

The place is very well maintained and pleasant without leaving an indelible impression. Nice, not great.

And in video.

We will finish with the gym. Big and bright but totally full in the early morning when I ventured in. Despite its size, I feel it is undersized in relation to the property’s capacity.

I will then do my checkout on the mobile app and head to the airport without going through the reception.

Bottom line : a safe bet

Nothing special to say about the JW Marriott Singapore. The promise of a 5-star hotel that is both business and leisure is kept. The service is solid, the experience of quality if we forget the concerns of tables not cleared. After some will find the decoration not sober enough and others very trendy on the contrary but one thing is sure there is no fault of taste. Finally I would have liked to stay there longer.
