For the first step of this trip in Malaysia, I chose the W Kuala Lumpur, located in front of the Petronas twin towers.
As a reminder, here is the itinerary followed:
Booking
I made the reservation at this property only two weeks before my arrival.
I had initially booked at the prestigious Mandarin Oriental and the Four Seasons also located near the Petronas Towers, but some constraints related to my professional activity made me change the property almost at the last minute.
So it’s at the neighboring W, opened in 2018, that I book for just over 100€ a night for a standard room with breakfast included.
Arrival
A few days before my arrival, I noticed an upgrade to the Fabulous Suite, the highest suite category before the WOW suite. Very good, and without using a Suite Night Award!
48 hours before the arrival date, I proceed with the check-in formalitiesvia the Marriott Bonvoy application.
I arrive by Grab from Kuala Lumpur airport. The latter is located at a distance of 50 km from the city, making the journey very long, more than an hour and without traffic. Instead, choose a hotel near a KLIA Express station, a shuttle bus similar to Hong Kong’s HK Express, which takesless than 30 minutes to reach the city center.
A mon arrivée, je suis assisté d’un valet qui prendra en charge ma valise, puis suis conduit au 8ème étage de l’hôtel où se trouve le lobby et la réception.
I am expected, called by name, and proceed to the registration formalities. At my request, they tell me the price for an upgrade to a WOW suite, 350€ extra per night. I decline, at this price I would have accepted for the eWOW (with private pool, which is over 500 m2).
Finally, I am escorted to my suite by the receptionist.
Room
My Fabulous suite was located on the20th floor of the property.
The decoration is questionable, as in all the hotels of the brand. The entrance leads to a living room. The latter has a large lounge area facing the first TV, a dining area with a high table and stools, and a small bar with hot and cold drinks towards the entrance. Separate toilets allow visitors to avoid visiting the night area.
The sleeping area is equipped with a very comfortable king size bed(I love the W bedding), a desk facing the bay window and a chaise longue, also near the bay window.
A walk-in closetbridges the gap between the sleeping area and the bathroom, and allows you to unpack for at least a week.
Finally, the bathroom is very spacious: separate toilet, double basin toilet, double shower very pleasant and bathtub also facing the view.
The view precisely…Difficult to do better in Kuala Lumpur, with this impressive view of the Petronas Twin Towers by day but especially by night… We can’t get enough of it.
Finally, the video tour:
Finally, here is the video tour:
Hotel facilities
As in many luxury hotels in Asia, the facilities are numerous. The property has a large outdoor pool, a fitness room and a spa.
Fitness room FIT
The FIT fitness room is located on the 12th floor of the property. It is strangely small with quite old equipment. It will do the job for me but I don’t think it will hold up for more demanding customers. The view is nevertheless breathtaking.
WET Pool
The WET pool is also located on the 12th floor of the property. I will only use it briefly and unlike the resort pools, the loungers will remain rather free during the day.
Catering
The property has4 restaurants and bars that I will have the pleasure of trying during my stay.
Lunch at the Flock
Just after my arrival and before starting an afternoon full of meetings, I decide to have lunch on the terrace, at the Flock, the property’s All Day Dining restaurant.
Thelunch menu is quite simple and I won’t be very local by ordering a pizza. Nevertheless it will be excellent and very well accompanied by the Italian Merlot ordered in parallel.
The service will leave a little to be desired, I will have to go to seek my water bottle posed on the counter to refill me.
Aperitif at the Wet Deck
The evening of my arrival, before going to dinner, I decide to go for a drink by the pool to relax after my day of work. I had reserved a table before, which was in fact booked in my name.
I’m settled and they bring me some caramelized popcornto accompany my drink. I will order a Deep Freeze, a house cocktail, as well as a Truffle Mac&Cheese which will turn out to be excellent.
While I was having my drink, theGeneral Manager, a German who speaks perfect French, came to chat with me for half an hour, very nice.
Yen Restaurant – Dinner Service
For my first night at the hotel, I decided to dine at Yen Restaurant, the property’s Cantonese starred restaurant.
The latter is located on the 11th floor of the property and is not accessible by the elevator leading to the rooms. This is an important clarification, asit took me more than 10 minutes of searching before I asked a waitress who kindly accompanied me there.
I am immediately taken in charge by the flight attendant and installed in one of the tables located in a rather private alcove.
The menu is quite extensive as you will see.
I will choose as a starter a plate of dim sum which will turn out to be not very fine and a bit stuffy, and a fried fish with a lot of frying but little fish.
For the main course, it will be the wok of scallops with asparagus and truffle, good but I was really not hungry anymore.
In the end a rather nice experience but I think I am definitely not a customer of Chinese food.
Breakfast at the Flock
Breakfast is served at the hotel’s main restaurant, Flock, from 6:30 am to 10:30 am daily.
The buffet is very extensive, with an important and very qualitative selectionof hot and cold dishes. In addition, a selection of made to order food is available.
I will takea small savory selection along with an a la carte order (which unfortunately arrives cold).
The service is perfect, fast, attentive. Excellent.
Aperitif at Woobar
Platinum and above members of the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program enjoy Happy Hour every night at the hotel bar from 6 to 7:30 pm. The latter allows you to order (limited to 4 glasses per room) soft drinks, beers, wines and cocktails from a special menu.
Appetizers are also served and change according to the mood of the chef. The ones I will have on the evening of my visit will turn out to be quite disappointing. But then again,I think it has more to do with my aversion to Chinese food, which I find particularly disgusting.
Departure
The departure formalities will besimple and fast and I will receive the invoice by e-mail on the spot.
Bottom line
An excellent stay, we will come back! Thanks to the whole staff!
