After an hour in the lounge, I leave at the theoretical boarding time, even though it hasn’t yet been announced on the screens.
As a reminder, here is the itinerary followed:
Boarding
I arrive at the boarding gate 5 minutes after the theoretical start time, but boarding doesn’t seem to be starting any time soon, the aircraft having arrived a good 30 minutes late from Bangkok.
So I wander around the boarding gate, and boarding starts almost 25 minutes late.
The priority lanes are well marked and I’ll be boarding in the first group.
Cabin and welcome
In this Thai Airways 777-200, it’s the airline’s regional cabin that’s deployed, with a generous 2-2-2 layout that leaves plenty of legroom.
Ce n’est évidemment pas la cabine la plus moderne du marché, mais elle fera l’affaire pour un vol d’un peu plus de 3 heures.
Cabin furnishings are very good, with comfortable pillows.
The adjoining seat will remain empty, which is likely to be the case for all passengers travelling alone.
During boarding, a welcome drink is offered, with a choice of cold ginger tea or orange juice. A good-quality hot oshibori will also be distributed.
Orders will be taken before takeoff, but without a paper menu.
Note that on Thai airlines, all electronic devices must be switched off during taxiing, take-off and landing.
Service and catering
The service will start about ten minutes after the seatbelt sign has been turned off.
He’ll start with the drinks: I’ll be served a glass of champagne, with permanent refills and still water.
The meal tray will be brought in all at once, but will be very comprehensive.
As a starter, the chickpeas are excellent but super-spicy.
The Massaman curry ordered will be very good and excellently presented.
The cheese will be of acceptable quality.
All served with warm bread and garlic bread to die for.
The dessert was a bit stuffy, the only dark spot on this excellent meal.
Drink refills will be constant.
Arrival and disembarkation
We arrive at the gate a few minutes after the theoretical arrival time. The approach will be superb, and immigration will be deserted. I’ll be landside in less than 5 minutes, joining a friend of mine who arrived on Air France a few minutes earlier.
Bottom line
An excellent flight, thanks to an excellent crew.
