Eva Air Royal Laurel Class, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi – Taipei, Boeing 777-300ER : Excellent in every respect

Leaving the Eva Air lounge as the attendant announces boarding, I arrive at gate G3, from which my flight leaves this afternoon.

Today’s itinerary

Boarding

Boarding begins as soon as I arrive at the gate. Passengers’ identities are checked at the boarding gate.

So I can use the automatic boarding gates, deserted by other passengers.

On the jetway, priority passengers can use the jetway connected to door 1L of the 777-300ER, while other passengers must use the jetway connected to door 2L.

Cabin and welcome

I’m greeted warmly at the door and shown to my seat. I have to cross the entire first Business cabin to get to my seat in the mini-cabin located just after door 2.

The flight attendant serving my aisle greets me and offers me a welcome drink. I’ll choose a glass of champagne, which will be brought to me promptly.

Still before we leave the door, the flight attendant confirms my pre-ordered meal, and asks me what I’d like to drink during the meal.

Service and catering

The service starts a few minutes after the seat-belt signs have been switched off.

The aperitif is served, with a glass of still water and some crackers. I’ll continue with the Veuve Cliquot La Grande Dame 2008, always succulent.

After the aperitif, the starter is brought to me, a salad with chicken/curry and bresaola: succulent with lemongrass. The starter is served with sesame-garlic bread. Superb !

Next, the salmon stuffed with shrimp is brought to me: a little overcooked but still great tasting with the initial champagne.

Finally, fruit, cheese and dessert are served with Late Bottle Vintage port.

Finally, I’m served mint tea.

After lunch, I doze for an hour before the start of the descent is announced.

Arrival and disembarkation

We arrive at the gate a few minutes late despite being 30 minutes late at the start.

Given the driving rain at the airport, the jetway will take some time to be set up.

Waiting for health checks will be quite long, as will immigration checks, which are so fast when I go through them!

Bottom line

An excellent flight for an airline that deserves its 5 SkyTrax stars.
