The first leg of this itinerary to San Antonio took me to Dallas Fort Worth, the airline’s main hub.
Check-in and ground experience
I checked in for my flight the day before departure through the American Airlines app. I immediately retrieved my Passbook and PDF boarding passes.
I left home two hours before the scheduled departure time in an Uber and arrived at the terminal ten minutes later.
I cleared TSA PreCheck in under a minute, as the line was completely empty.
Lounge
The American Airlines Admirals Club is still located near gate B4 at Boston Logan.
The welcome was very warm, and I was quickly invited in after my eligibility was verified.
Since I would be having a meal on board, I limited myself to a Vodka Tonic, which I sipped slowly during my 45-minute stay.
Boarding
I arrive at the gate a few minutes before the theoretical boarding time.
The priority lines were clearly marked, and boarding began more or less on time. Pre-boarding for First passengers started, and I made my way on board.
Cabin and welcome
American’s A321neo Domestic First cabin is configured with comfortable 2-2 recliner seats.
The welcome was nonexistent, and I quickly settled into my seat.
During boarding, the flight attendant in charge of the First cabin came by to take pre-departure drink orders, and I chose a Gin and Tonic, which I sipped until pushback.
Service and catering
The service began during the climb to cruising altitude.
It started with confirmation of the meal order and the drink order, and I once again chose a gin and tonic.
A hot oshibori was brought by one of the two flight attendants working the First cabin.
The gin and tonic was served with warm nuts, which were, as always, excellent.
Next came the tray, consisting of a fairly fresh salad and the pasta dish I had ordered, which was absolutely delicious.
Everything was then cleared away, and the crew came through with a choice of cheese or dessert from a tray. I opted for an ice cream as well as a Baileys coffee to round it all off.
Arrival and disembarkation
We arrived at the gate 55 minutes ahead of schedule, a very comfortable margin that allowed me to visit the Dallas Flagship Lounge at my leisure.
Bottom line
An excellent flight with a motivated, smiling, and helpful crew: rare enough to be worth highlighting!
