Sol Cypress, San Antonio, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel: Excellent in Every Aspect

For my three-night stay in San Antonio, I booked the Sol Cypress, a new Tribute Portfolio hotel, one of Marriott Bonvoy’s lifestyle brands.

Booking

I made the booking through the Marriott Bonvoy app, using an AAA rate.

I booked a suite directly for just under $300 per night, which may seem expensive, but remains relatively reasonable for a large American city in the middle of the week.

I also completed the online check-in formalities 48 hours before my arrival through the same app, and requested a late check-out until 4 p.m.

Arrival

I arrived at the hotel by Uber from the airport. The property is located less than 15 minutes away, with no traffic after 7 p.m.

After a short wait of less than three minutes, I was assisted by the receptionist, who handled the arrival formalities. He confirmed my booking in a Senior Suite, and also confirmed my 4 p.m. late check-out on the day of departure. He asked which Elite benefit I wished to use, and I chose breakfast, since it was valid for two people and more than offset all of my dining expenses. I was quickly on my way to my suite, located on the third floor of the property.

Suite

My suite was therefore located on the third floor of the hotel.

The entrance opened into a generously sized living area, with a lounge space, a dining table, and a kitchenette area equipped with a Nespresso machine, something rare in American hotels.

To the left of the entrance, there was also a half-bathroom, convenient when receiving guests in the suite.

Beyond the living room was the sleeping area, beginning with a bedroom featuring a king-size bed facing a television set on a bench unit, with furniture offering enough storage space for a good week.

Then came the bathroom, separated from the bedroom by a wardrobe area.

The shower was very spacious, and a jacuzzi was also provided. The toiletries were from the Apotheke brand and were of excellent quality.

Finally, the virtual tour:

Hotel Amenities

The hotel is equipped with a swimming pool, a jacuzzi, and a fitness room.

Swimming Pool and hot tub

The property’s swimming pool and jacuzzi are located on the ground floor of the hotel, near the reception. The pool is very small, but swimming there is very pleasant thanks to the Texan temperatures. The hot tub is adjacent and makes for a very enjoyable moment at the end of the day. I did not have much time to enjoy it, just one morning relaxing after a good workout.

Fitness Center

The fitness room is located on the third floor of the property, which is the same floor as my suite.

It is fairly small, but I had no trouble using the equipment every morning during my stay.

Food & Beverage

The property has dining outlets located on the ground floor of the hotel, near the lobby.

Service du dîner – Roam & Range

On the evening of my arrival, I had dinner at the hotel restaurant located right next to the lobby. As I was alone, I sat at the bar while having a drink at the same time.

The menu is fairly varied, but as I only had a small appetite, I chose the escargots, served with mashed potatoes. I paired it all with a Johnnie Walker Blue, one of my favorite whiskies.

Everything was good, but nothing more.

The following day, I ordered an Old Fashioned cocktail, which was excellent, as well as a filet mignon with pepper sauce that was divine.

Service du petit-déjeuner – River Run

Each morning during my stay, I had breakfast at the hotel café thanks to my breakfast vouchers.

On the first morning, I had a café au lait, along with fried eggs and potatoes, both of which were delicious. The sausages, however, were a little dry, and the fruit was… not ripe.

Service

The service at this hotel is simply excellent, with attentive and very friendly staff… a far cry from the unbearable service on the East Coast or West Coast!

Departure

The check-out formalities were extremely simple, and I was on my way to my training in a matter of seconds.

Bottom line

A very pleasant stay in a charming hotel.
