Delta Sky Club, New York LaGuardia: really very good

The Delta Sky Club at New York’s La Guardia airport is a reflection of this once old-fashioned and beautifully renovated airport: attractive, very large, pleasant and offering a very high quality service.

It’s time for me to leave New York for New Orleans, a flight for which I will be taking Delta Airlines. So here I am at La Guardia Airport, which I haven’t been to in a good twenty years because it was an experience that made me avoid it at all costs. It has since been renovated and that changes everything.

You will find the summary of the articles on this trip to Boston, New York and New Orleans at the bottom of the page.

Lounge location

Once you have passed through the security checks, the lounge is in the corridor on the left, upstairs, not far from the start of the area where the boarding gates are located.

Very well located.

Access to the lounge

If you thought the access policy to the United lounge in Boston was stingy, it’s even worse here.

The lounge is accessible

• To Delta Sky Club members ($695 per year).

• To people traveling in Delta One class on a domestic or international flight (not domestic first).

• Passengers flying on an international Delta or Skyteam partner flight with at least Gold (Delta) or Elite Plus (Skyteam) status.

• Holders of an American Express Platinum card (10 visits per year).

• Holders of the Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Card (15 visits per year).

I fly domestic first so no access, I’m Platinum Flying Blue so no access but thankfully I have my American Express Platinum card.

Layout and design of the lounge

The lounge is really big, bright and divided into several differently designed areas.

A traditional lounge area and work spaces.

An area dedicated to catering.

Catering

The buffet is of high quality and very well stocked. When I visit, the breakfast offer will be in place.

There is fruit.

IMG_8571

Hot dishes: scrambled eggs, sausages, eggs with spinach.

Pickles.

Roasted potatoes, apple crumble.

As for drinks, there is the traditional hot drinks machine.

IMG_8583

Fruit juices.

IMG_8584

The usual soda fountain.

And for other drinks, you go to the bar.

A truly comprehensive, high-quality offering.

Facilities

The lounge has a toilet but no shower.

Atmosphere

Of course it’s a bit noisy because of the crowds, but not at all unpleasant. It’s easy to find a spot without feeling crowded or bothered by the crowds and the movement.

Bottom line

I’m usually pretty negative about lounges in the United States, but I have to admit that this one raises the bar and does the job perfectly.
