Delta Sky Club New Orleans: small but nice

The Delta lounge at New Orleans airport is modest in size and with a service that is perhaps a little inferior to that of major airports, but overall it is of a very good standard.

My stay is coming to an end and I will pass through Boston again before returning to Europe. Flying with Delta, I will therefore wait for my flight in the Sky Club lounge in New Orleans.

Lounge location

After the security checks, the lounge is upstairs, after turning left and walking for about a minute. It is close to concourse C but is still within a very acceptable distance of all the airport gates.

Eligibility

The lounge is accessible

• To Delta Sky Club members ($695 per year).

• To people traveling in Delta One class on a domestic or international flight (not domestic first).

• Passengers flying on an international Delta or Skyteam partner flight with at least Gold (Delta) or Elite Plus (Skyteam) status.

• Holders of an American Express Platinum card (10 admissions per year).

• Holders of the Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Card (15 visits per year).

So I’ll go in with my American Express Platinum.

Layout and design

My eligibility is checked at the entrance to the lounge and I am greeted with a “welcome” and a big smile and they call my name. It’s rare enough to be worth mentioning.

The lounge consists of a long room, not very big but overlooking the tarmac and therefore quite bright.

Not exactly a blast, but let’s just say it gets the job done.

Catering

There is a buffet in the middle of the lounge, on the side.

There are cakes.

Salads and vegetables.

small sandwiches, cold meats and cheese.

Regarding hot dishes there are Creole potatoes, scampi chicken (very good)…

IMG_8941

steamed vegetables and cabbage with peas.

And finally soups (chicken noodle and tomato).

As for drinks, there is a fully stocked bar where you can order them.

All in all, a good and consistent range of services that will more than satisfy me.

Facilities

The lounge has toilets but no showers.

Atmosphere

The lounge was very busy, but I easily found a quiet stool. Nice for waiting a bit, but certainly less so for spending hours in the crowd.

Quite noisy, however.

Strangely, the various TV channels were broadcasting different programs, sports or other, but not the opening ceremony of the Olympics, which had just started even though Delta was an official partner of the event.

However, I will see a few people do as I do and follow it on their tablet.

Bottom line

A rather pleasant lounge for a short wait; in any case, given the flights it handles, there’s no reason to spend more time there.
