Thai Royal Silk Lounge in Bangkok Terminal E: better during the day than at breakfast

So here I am back in Bangkok with over 8 hours of connecting time to kill before heading back to Stockholm. As on the outward journey I will first go to the Thai Royal Silk Lounge located in terminal E, close to my future boarding gate. I had already been to this lounge on the outbound journey and to say the least, I was very disappointed with it, so I decided to give it a second chance at another time, hoping that the service provided would be a little different.

Anyway I don’t plan to stay long: 8 hours in a lounge is deadly, there are a lot of lounges to which I have access and as in Bangkok all the terminals communicate with each other I can try them all.

You will find at the bottom of the page all the articles related to this trip in Australia.

Location of the lounge

Thai has several lounges and I would choose the one close to my departure gate so in terminal E, or rather the E gate area as in Bangkok all boarding areas are connected and freely accessible.

I could have tried another one as I was planning to visit other lounges in other parts of the terminal but as I wanted to review this one I decided to start with it.

Access to the lounge

Open to all passengers travelling on Thai in business class, any Star Alliance airline in business class, THAI Royal Orchid Gold and Platinum members or Star Alliance Gold status holders travelling on a Star Alliance operated flight.

Lounge layout

I have already presented this lounge a short time ago so I will keep it short.

It is in one piece but with areas separated by clostraps to give a little more privacy.

Not ugly but not exciting either and rather sad.

Catering

This is the big change compared to my previous visit: the service offered during the day is much more consistent than what I had seen at breakfast time.

It’s still of a higher standard even if it’s not as good as many of the other lounges in Bangkok Suvarnabhumi as you’ll see in the following articles.

The supply of alcohol is also (slightly) better.

Atmosphere

Very calm and quiet when I visited.

Bottom line

In my opinion, the catering is better during the day than in the early morning, but this lounge does not make you want to linger there either.

So I’ll leave quickly after I’ve seen what I want to see and set out to explore the other airport lounges.
