Today’s itinerary

Playa del Carmen

Our first stop will be Playa del Carmen, a seaside resort located south of Cancun, a little over an hour’s drive away.

There is nothing special to visit, but the atmosphere is quite nice, much less Americanized than in Cancun, and the beach is beautiful.

We will have a coffee at the Thompson hotel which faces the sea, where the atmosphere is very nice.

Tulum

Tulum is one of the must-see places in the Maya Riviera. The city is located about 1h30 south of Playa del Carmen.

To park, just follow the signs to the archaeological area. There is a whole business more or less legal by people who sell you places. Difficult to avoid, we will pay 100 pesos for our parking.

Beware, even in low season, expect a large queue to access the site. We will wait nearly 45 minutes under the sun.

The entrance to the site costs 85 pesos per person, cash only.

The archaeological site is magnificent, and the beaches around are very beautiful (but busy).

Cenote Azul

On the way back,we stopped at one of the most beautiful Cenote of the region, the Cenote Azul.

The entrance is on the side of the main road, just park near the entrance.

The latter costs 120 pesos per person. A shower is required before entering the site. And it is cold.

Then, it is just mangnificent, even more beautiful than on the photos!

Bottom line

A beautiful and busy day. And contrary to what we expected, under the sun!
