Boarding

I arrived at the gate around ten minutes before the scheduled boarding time.

Boarding began with passengers requiring special assistance, followed by Business Class passengers, including myself.

I was selected for a random explosives screening before being allowed onto the jet bridge.

Cabin and welcome

The Business Class cabin on this Boeing 737-800 features four rows of recliner seats in a 2-2 configuration. The seats were very comfortable, as usual.

The welcome at the door was warm, and a full-bar pre-departure drink was offered.

The service was warm and cheerful—finally, a crew that actually seemed to enjoy their job.

A welcome change from the usual grumpy American flight attendants!

Service and catering

The service began with a confirmation of my online meal selection, as well as my drink order, a Baileys coffee. The flight attendant also told me my connecting gate for Boston.

About ten minutes later, my tray arrived, and everything was excellent: the omelet, the pancakes, and the nicely ripened fruit.

Warm bread rolls were distributed and were excellent as well.

Arrival and disembarkation

We arrived at the gate around twenty minutes ahead of schedule, which is always appreciated when you have an international connection and immigration to clear.

Bottom line

An excellent flight, a welcome departure from the usual American Airlines service.
