Costa Rica Marriott Hotel, Hacienda Belen: Traditional Architecture and Attentive Service

After a long air itinerary, here comes the first part of my stay in Costa Rica, with my first two nights at one of Marriott’s flagship hotels in the capital, the Marriott Hacienda Belen, known for its distinctive architecture.

Booking

I booked this property a few weeks before my arrival, for just over $200 per night including all taxes. That is very reasonable for one of the best hotels in the city.

Arrival

I arrived at the hotel after around a 20-minute Uber ride from the airport.

When I got there, the front desk was fairly busy, and I had to wait about ten minutes before I could complete the check-in formalities. I had noticed an upgrade to an Executive Suite before arrival, and this upgrade was indeed confirmed during check-in.

The whole experience was very warm, and I was quickly on my way to my suite.

Suite

My suite was located on the 6th and top floor of the property. As is often the case, it was actually made up of two connecting rooms combined into one suite, so the surface area was roughly double that of a standard room.

The entrance opens onto a hallway leading first to a bathroom, then to the living room, which is equipped with a sofa, a coffee table, and a first desk.

A welcome amenity had been placed on the coffee table. It was generous.

Next comes the bedroom itself, which also features a desk, a king-size bed with two nightstands, as well as another bathroom.

There is a large closet space available on both sides of the suite.

Hotel Amenities

The hotel features a spa, which I did not use during my stay, as well as a fitness center. Both are located in a separate building, about a two-minute walk away.

The fitness room is not very large, and it gets quite warm inside. I used it for my morning workout.

Food & Beverage

The hotel had several food and beverage outlets. I did not try all of them during my stay.

Bar – Sushi

On the first evening, I had a few sushi bites at the bar. They were fresh, but I did not finish the plate because the portion was a bit too generous.

Hacienda Kitchen – Breakfast

Breakfast is served in the hotel’s main restaurant, located one level below the reception area. It was not of particularly high quality.

Club Lounge

The property has a Club Lounge located on the 2nd floor. The staff there were very pleasant, and I spent some time there working and having a few coffees.

Service

Service is excellent at this property, notably thanks to the great hospitality of the Costa Ricans.

Departure

Check-out formalities were simple and quick, and the bill was emailed to me immediately afterward.

Bottom line

A very high-quality stay.
