Le Méridien, Philadelphia: Terrible!

For my second night during this trip to Philadelphia, I chose to stay at Le Méridien Philadelphia, a hotel I’ve been wanting to try since my last visit.

Booking

I booked this property less than a week before my arrival. I had originally booked at the Element, which shares the same building as the W Philadelphia in which I had last stayed.

This time, I used my company’s corporate rate to minimize costs and booked a suite directly for a reasonable total of $286.

Arrival

I arrive at the hotel on foot at around 3pm, coming directly from the Ritz-Carlton. The main entrance is via a staircase with steep steps, not very practical if you have heavy luggage.

The welcome was deceptively warm, I was thanked for my loyalty but told that I had been upgraded, even though I had booked a suite directly. I’m also told that I don’t need a coupon for breakfast, when in fact I do.

In short, things got off to a bad start.

Suite

My suite, 751, was located on the 7th floor, in the corner of the building.

The door opened to a small entryway, with a mirror on the right and a wardrobe housing the safe on the left.

Next was the living area, furnished with a sofa, an armchair, two coffee tables, and a desk-height table with a stool, which had some storage space for folded clothes.

Then came the bedroom area, not really separated from the living space, featuring a relatively comfortable king-size bed facing the television.

The curtains were in a deplorable state, barely closing properly.

The bathroom followed, equipped with a single vanity, a shower, and a toilet that was questionably clean.

All in all, a suite in very poor condition.

Finally, the virtual tour:

Hotel facilities

The hotel has a fitness center located on the 5th floor.

It’s small, windowless, and the equipment is also in poor condition.

Catering

The property has a bar-restaurant adjacent to the lobby.

I only used it for a late breakfast after my morning calls.

I had to request the breakfast voucher at the front desk, as it wasn’t provided during check-in, even though it was necessary. I ordered the continental breakfast,

which was of mediocre quality.

Service

The service at this hotel is appalling.

Requests made through the Marriott Bonvoy app were either ignored or responded to several hours late. Absolutely unacceptable.

And when I say “responded to”… I didn’t have a bottle of shower gel in my room, and despite my request, none was ever delivered. Shameful!

Departure

The departure formalities will be very simple, as they will be carried out via the Marriott Bonvoy application. I’ll be on my way to the airport in no time.

Bottom line

A stay to forget as soon as possible.
