Radisson Blu Scandinavia Gothenburg, Superior Junior Suite: as pleasant as ever.

For the last leg of my Scandinavian tour, I didn’t hesitate long to choose a hotel in Gothenburg. The Radisson Blu Scandinavia made an excellent impression on me during my last stay and I saw no reason to stay anywhere else.

As a reminder, here are the articles related to this trip.

Booking

I made the reservation on the Radisson website. Contrary to my habits, I booked a suite directly. Why ?

Because my Gold status at Radisson only guarantees me a room “superior” to the one I booked, and therefore not a suite, especially since we all know Scandinavian penny-pinching when it comes to upgrades. And yet ( stinginess as ever ) access to the Spa is free only for suite occupants, and as the Radisson Blu’s is one of my favorites, there was no way I was going to miss out!

Location of the hotel

It is located in the heart of the city, opposite the train station. Convenient for shopping, but the restaurants (the good ones) are mostly in another part of town…but given the size of the town, everything is less than a 20-minute walk away, so there’s no need to worry about that.

Arrival at the hotel and check-in

More than friendly check-in (a habit in Sweden, contrary to popular belief), but still the bad habit (which I only encountered in Gothenburg…) of cashing the stay at check-in.

I’ll also be given a stack of spa vouchers, and told that if I wanted more, all I had to do was ask.

I’m off to take possession of my suite.

The superior junior suite at the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Gothenburg

I expected to have exactly the same room as on my previous stay, but this was not the case. This one was renovated too, but :

1°) The view was better because it overlooked the canal and the station rather than a small street behind the hotel.

2°) There was no separation between the day and night areas. Interesting, since one of the complaints I had about my suite during my last stay was that the lounge area was too full of furniture for its size.

Anyway, even if there are differences with my previous stay, I don’t really see how it’s really “superior”.

You enter through a small corridor that leads to the bathroom (on the left) and the lounge (opposite).

The lounge is much less full than that of the other suite, not because it’s less furnished, but because of the lack of separation, which increases the impression of space (even though both suites are the same size).

Opposite, we have the night area. Very spacious with a very comfortable bed. On the other hand, the Scandinavian habit of using two mini comforters instead of one large one still infuriates me.

The overall effect is one of spaciousness.

There’s plenty of storage and I appreciate the office space, absent from far too many of the hotels I’ve frequented recently.

The bathroom is a good size, with a bathtub that doubles as a shower, but the toilet is not separate.

I also have a beautiful balcony which is unfortunately unusable at this time of year.

As for the view, it’s a little more pleasing and in any case more unobstructed, with the canal and station opposite and the Clarion Hotel Post to the right.

And to finish the visit in video.

All in all, a very pleasant room, more so than some of the hotel’s other junior suites.

I must admit that I don’t usually like suites with a clear separation between the bedroom and the lounge. But if it’s to have a lounge that makes you feel claustrophobic, I still prefer the configuration of this room. And it’s less of a problem when you’re alone in the room than when there are two of you, and one of you may want some peace and quiet to rest and work while the other watches TV, for example.

As for the rest, I won’t dwell on the hotel and my stay, as everything has already been written about my previous stay. I invite you to re-read this review of the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Gothenburg to appreciate its facilities and especially its spa.
