Vietnam Airlines’ Lotus Lounge at Saigon airport in the domestic flights area does a decent job, but doesn’t leave a lasting impression.
After these few days in Saigon, it’s time for me to head for Hanoi, which I’ll do with Vietnam Airlines. Before boarding, I’ll try out two lounges in the airport area, starting with Vietnam Airlines’ Lotus Lounge.
You’ll find at the bottom of the page a summary of the articles about this vacation in Vietnam.
Location of the lounge
Le salon est situé dans la partie domestique du terminal, juste après le long couloir qui suit les contrôles de sécurité. It’s at one end of the terminal, but given its size, it’s a reasonable distance from the farthest doors.
Good to know: Vietnam Airlines passengers also have access to another lounge, a contract lounge, at the other end of the terminal. So you can choose the one closest to your boarding gate.
I almost missed this lounge. It is only indicated once you have passed the inspection (on the left). I didn’t see the sign and naturally took a right as we’re at the end of the terminal, so I left this lounge at my back and it’s not signposted anywhere else at all, even when turning back.
Access to the lounge
The lounge is open to Vietnam Airlines business class passengers, and Elite members of their loyalty programs. On the other hand, if you have elite status on a Skyteam airline and are traveling in economy class, you only have access if you are connecting with an international flight.
One of Skyteam’s stinginesses compared, for example, to Star Alliance.
Lounge layout
It comprises two main areas.
The first along the windows overlooking the tarmac.
Another is located around the buffet, half lounge, half dining area.
A bright lounge, not ugly but not very charming either. There are contract lounges more attractive than this.
Catering
The buffet is quite large.
The offer is logically made up of local hot and cold dishes.
The beverage offer includes tea and coffee, as well as some soft drinks and beer.
Even for me, a lover of Vietnamese food and Asian cuisine in general, I didn’t find the whole thing very appetizing. I’ll eat a few fried spring rolls, which turn out to be greasy and dry.
As for the drinks, they lacked variety and even quality.
Facilities
The lounge has a toilet and a small work area. Clean but dilapidated toilets.
Atmosphere
A little noisy, more like a station concourse than a lounge.
Bottom line
A lounge which has the merit of existing, but which has no charm and offers a rather mediocre catering service.
