Bangkok D-2 : Poorly known temples

For our second day of visit in the Thai capital, we chose to discover temples a little less known than the classic tourist attractions of the city.

We chose to get around using the Grab app, the Uber of Southeast Asia, and walking when possible.

As a reminder, here is the itinerary followed:

Today’s itinerary

Sri Maha Mariamman Temple

We leave the hotel by Grab just after the breakfast service for this first temple located in the Silom district.

The latter contrasts with the relative modernity of the area, displaying bright colors and Hindu architecture.

The visit of the temple is totally free, but it is forbidden to take pictures inside.

The exterior is the most interesting anyway, but other than that, not much to see.

Wat Suthat Thepwararam Ratchaworahawihan

Our second temple of the day to which we will also go by Grab is more interesting. In front of the entrance of the latter is a giant swing.

After paying the 100 baths entrance fee, you will enter the main temple and its Buddha lined up around the patio.

The temple itself is quite successful, but the second temple is in my opinion more interesting beyond the first wall. Don’t miss it!

Wat Saket (Golden Mount)

To get to this temple, we simply walked from the previous temple. But beware, Bangkok is not really a pedestrian-friendly city.

After paying 50 baths, you can proceed up the hill to the temple. The interior of the temple is nothing special, but the roof offers a superb view of all Bangkok.

Wat Ratcha Natdaram Worawihan

This temple was not on the program, but we noticed it when we were at the top of the golden mount.

So we walked to the latter, not very touristy but which offers a very particular tower. Worth the detour.

Wat Benchamabophit Dusitwanaram

This will be our last temple of the day, more touristic and less interesting. Just walk away.
