Big summer vacations in Thailand

The wait was so long… After many long months without a big break, finally comes mid-August and my well-deserved vacations. For this stay, I will totally cut off from any professional interaction.

Flights and transportation

So many changes for this itinerary! Initially, we had planned to go to Thailand in February 2022, to celebrate our two years of marriage.

However, at that time, the restrictions for entering and staying in Thailand are severe: PCR tests before departure, on arrival with mandatory quarantine until the result, then a very stressful test at D-5.

Also, a week before, we give up this option and choose to go to Mexico. On this occasion, we have shifted our flights to August to use them during our summer vacations… Which we will do during this itinerary.

So, it’s for less than £1,000 per person that we travel to Thailand this time, and in Business Class with Finnair.

Moreover, some flights will feature the new Business Class of the Finnish airline with its non-reclining seats.

To get to Koh Samui, there was only one option at the time of our initial booking: Bangkok Airways. I had taken a flexible reservation just in case… And I was wrong, because I will use this reservation again for the month of August, modifying it without any fees.

Moreover, Thai Airways had still not resumed domestic flights during our summer visit.

Hotels

As for the hotels, same thing, we re-used the hotels initially reserved in February.

For Bangkok, before we head to Koh Samui, I’ll reuse the originally prepaid SHA+ package reservation to book a night in one of the property’s nicest suites.

I will split this stay with a reservation at the brand new Kimpton Maa-Lai for the remaining 3 nights before our departure to Koh Samui.

In Koh Samui, we will stay at the Vana Belle, property recommended by Bertrand, in a Grand Pool Suite.

Finally, on our return to Bangkok before leaving, we take advantage of a Fine Hotels & Resorts promotion from American Express to stay at the Peninsula.

Activities

As far as activities are concerned, we will visit Bangkok for two days, Koh Samui for two days, and the rest will be dedicated to rest.
