Renaissance New-York Flushing Hotel at Tangram: Very solid

After my Norse flight from Paris and not being able to catch any connection to Boston the same evening, I have to stay near JFK airport to leave the next day for Boston.

As a reminder, here is the itinerary followed:

Today’s itinerary

Booking

I will book this property a few weeks before my arrival. No Marriott hotel is accessible via the Airtrain, and I refuse to give in to all kinds of price manipulations from the TWA Hotel.

So I chose this newly opened hotel over the nearby half-service hotels.

And here I am with a reservation for one night for $180 all taxes included.

48 hours before arrival, I proceeded to the online check-in, and indicated my arrival time around 11pm. Until my arrival in New-York, no mention of any upgrade is indicated in the application.

Arrival

I arrive shortly before midnight at the hotel, after a 45 minutes Uber ride with an impressive traffic at such a late hour.

The main entrance to the hotel is locked after 11pm and I have to ring the bell for the reception to give me access to the building.

Strangely for a property in the United States, the reception is not located on the first floor but on the 12th and last floor of the hotel, so I have to use the elevators to get there.

The lobby is deserted and I am immediately taken care of by the receptionist. He is impressed by my status… But doesn’t give me an upgrade, even though Club rooms are available.

Considering the time spent there, it’s not really a problem.

He tells me that I will have access to the Club Lounge, located on the 11th floor of the hotel, using my room card.

Room

My room, 402, was located on the 4th floor of the hotel.

The hotel is new, and a special effort has been made to decorate the common areas, especially the corridors.

The entrance to the room is quite small and leads to a bathroom open to the room. Like it or not, this clearly poses concerns of intimacy, but when you are alone it does not bother me. On the other hand, there is no closet to store your clothes, which limits the use of the room to a very short stay.

The bathroom, precisely, is very functional, with a washbasin, a large shower and high quality Aveda toiletries, and a toilet obviously separated from the washbasin (since it is an integral part of the room). The construction materials are of high quality.

The room itself is spacious : on the right is the king size bed, very comfortable, with 4 feather pillows as I usually ask, and faces a TV equipped with a hotel entertainment system of the latest generation, since it can even display the status in the loyalty program !

A loveseat is installed near the window, and a sideboard with an American coffee machine.

Unfortunately, there is no desk to work at, and that’s a problem.

Finally, here is the video tour:

Hotel facilities

The hotel has a gym, tennis court and indoor pool, all located on the 3rd floor of the hotel.

Tennis court

The tennis court is located on the 3rd floor of the hotel, just off the elevators. It didn’t seem to be in use when I visited: it’s outside and the weather wasn’t the best.

Swimming Pool and hot tub

The pool and the jacuzzi are also located on the 3rd floor of the property. They are indoor, but the area was still under construction at the time of my visit (this is mentioned at the time of the reservation, so no surprise).

Gym

The fitness room is very spacious and includes many cardio and weight training areas. It was almost deserted when I visited in the morning on a weekday.

Catering

The restaurant offer is made up of the hotel’s main restaurant, the Prime Met Steakhouse, located on the 12th floor of the hotel. A Whisky Bar completes this offer.

But due to my late arrival and early departure, I won’t have the opportunity to test them.

Club Lounge

The Club Lounge is located on the 11th floor of the hotel It’s available 24 hours a dat and offers soft and hot drinks at any time. I will be able to try the breakfast buffet on the mor, ning of my stay, and I will be surprised by its relatively good quality.

Service

It’s hard to say anything: my only human interaction was with the receptionist when I arrived. Very friendly by the way.. But everything else was done in self-service, which is not to my displeasure, but it is difficult to evaluate this point.

Departure

I did the check-out process from my Marriott Bonvoy mobile app, and left the key in the ad hoc box located near the reception.

Bottom line

A good stay, short, but with a quality room. The materialization of the Ambassador benefits leaves something to be desired though.

Bien

Un séjour de bonne facture, court, mais avec une chambre de qualité. La matérialisation des bénéfices Ambassador laisse à désirer néanmoins.
