Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Lounge, Doha Hamad International: overcrowded

Freshly disembarked from my flight from Bangalore, and after some shopping in the huge duty-free in Doha, I head to the Al Mourjan lounge of the Qatari airline located on the mezzanine of the terminal.

Today’s itinerary

Location

As for the lounges, on the Doha Hamad platform, one of them is reserved forFirst class passengers, another for Business passengers – the one I will visit today – and a last one for loyal passengers, i.e. having a Sapphire or Emerald status in the Oneworld alliance, and flying on one of the Oneworld airlines.

Eligibility is verified before the escalator to the lounge, with a boarding pass check by an attendant.

Lounge design

The design of the lounge has not changed since my previous trip. It is still very airy, since it is just on the mezzanine of the terminal, bright, and with a decoration that I particularly appreciate.

Nevertheless, this is the busiest connection range on the platform, and it is literally packed.

I will somehow find one of the last available seats, and will have to wait a good hour to get a place in one of the catering areas.

Catering

The lounge’s food and beverage offerings are available at two locations. On the first floor of the lounge, a light and cold food area is available. I will realize only once installed that there will be no breakfast as such.

So I went to the space I had visited on my first visit, which was located on the mezzanine of the lounge. For about 1.5 hours after arriving at the lounge, I noticed a long line and delayed my breakfast.

Once I got through the line, I was immediately seated at a table near the window.

The table is set, and I go to the buffet to order an omelet and some potatoes. It will be good, not more, and I will order a glass of rosé champagne in addition to the orange juice available at the buffet. The service is not particularly attentive, nobody asks me if I want a little more champagne for example, you can see that it is rush!

Bottom line

As a result, the lounge is much less friendly when it is much more crowded. The fact that it is not possible to access the buffet from the relaxation areas means that the catering facilities are completely saturated at peak times.
