As our vacation comes to an end, it’s time to take this final flight back to Boston, our home.
Boarding
Since we had a stroller to check at the gate and wanted to board early, we left the lounge about 15 minutes before the scheduled boarding time.
Once we arrived at the gate, we folded our stroller and placed it in its travel bag, then approached the gate to have it checked through to Boston.
The gate agent completed the necessary formalities to check the stroller and invited us to board at the same time as passengers with reduced mobility.
A few minutes before the scheduled boarding time, passengers requiring assistance were called to the gate for boarding, and we joined them.
Cabin and welcome
We boarded the aircraft and took our seats in the second row of the Domestic First cabin on this Boeing 737. The Domestic First cabin is configured with four rows of recliner seats arranged in a 2-2 layout.
Thanks to our early boarding, we had plenty of time to settle in and ample space in the overhead bin for our carry-on and baby bag.
No pre-departure beverages were offered during boarding, which is always inconsistent on American Airlines.
The cabin crew’s welcome was very pleasant, with smiles all around, and they were understanding, despite the presence of our baby, who remained calm as usual.
Boarding was completed almost on time, and we quickly made our way to the runway for takeoff.
Service and catering
The service began shortly after takeoff.
Very elegantly, the purser walked through the First Class cabin to take meal orders or confirm passengers’ pre-selected meals. My wife and I were addressed by name throughout the entire flight, which is rare for a domestic U.S. flight.
Our online meal selections were confirmed, and my request to have my wife served first and myself afterward was accommodated without hesitation and executed perfectly.
The service remained attentive throughout the entire flight. A hot oshibori (towel) was distributed, and during the beverage service, the napkin was placed in the correct orientation for the passenger. A refill of drinks was even offered before the meal tray service.
The meal tray served to me was excellent—very fresh—and the dessert was also excellent, with a reasonable portion size. It’s rare to receive such a complete and fresh meal tray on a U.S. domestic flight.
The purser continuously walked through the cabin, allowing me to order a Baileys towards the end of the flight.
Arrival and disembarkation
We arrived at Boston Gate about 20 minutes ahead of schedule. This time, our checked baggage took a bit longer than usual to arrive on the carousel. After about 10 minutes, when baggage delivery began, our bags were the first to come out, with all five delivered at the same time.
Bottom line
An excellent flight, in stark contrast to the inbound flight, where the crew was unmotivated and the delay was simply unacceptable. This time, everything was perfect.
