First stop on our return journey to Boston, with a visit to the American Airlines Flagship Lounge at Miami International Airport.
Check-in and ground experience
I completed the check-in process for this flight 24 hours before departure via the American Airlines app. I was able to download the boarding passes in Passbook format for my wife, our baby, and myself. I also downloaded the corresponding PDFs to store them in my Cloud.
On the day of departure, we left from the EDITION hotel where we had been staying.
After about a 30-minute ride with some light traffic, we were dropped off at Terminal D of the airport, where American Airlines flights depart from.
We were dropped off near Door 2, where we headed to check in our luggage at the Flagship First zone.
Despite a bit of difficulty navigating with a stroller, we entered the deserted zone.
In just a few seconds, the agent checked in our four checked bags and then escorted us to the adjacent TSA checkpoint.
The screening process was handled by grumpy TSA agents who took an eternity.
We then walked to the lounge, choosing to skip the SkyTrain as it wasn’t very frequent.
Location and welcome
The lounge is located near Gate B40, co-located with the Admirals Club, sharing the same reception on the ground floor.
Upon arrival, we noticed a significant queue of several dozen passengers, likely due to overcrowding at the Admirals Club.
Nevertheless, a hostess checked the eligibility of the passengers for the Flagship Lounge, and we were quickly admitted after a very charming welcome.
To differentiate eligible Flagship Lounge passengers, small flyers are distributed, which must be presented to the hostesses at the mezzanine level, just outside the elevators, to grant access to this area dedicated to the airline’s most premium passengers.
Lounge design
The lounge’s design hasn’t changed since my last visit. It is decorated in the classic tones found in the airline’s Admirals Clubs. The lounge is spacious, with different areas for relaxation or dining.
Catering
As always in the Flagship Lounges, the catering is top-notch, with a well-stocked buffet offering appetizers, main courses, and desserts, all of which looked appetizing.
A burrito and taco station was also available and proved to be very popular.
Throughout the lounge, hot and cold beverages were readily available, and there was a fully stocked self-service bar located in one of the lounge’s dining areas.
The selection of alcoholic drinks and wines was of very high quality, with genuine champagne, which is quite rare in American lounges, even premium ones.
Unfortunately, on this occasion, the Flagship Dining Room wasn’t accessible to us as it requires an international First Class ticket.
We spent a pleasant two hours in the lounge before heading to board our flight to Boston.
Bottom line
A very enjoyable lounge experience, probably in my Top 3 lounges in the United States, and accessible even on domestic flights.
