Today’s itinerary

Booking

In the midst of a pandemic, it’s hard to find a hotel that stays open in countries with severe restrictions. This is the case in Poland, where hotels are required to remain closed, and those that remain open are required to restrict guests’ stays in 30 situations perfectly documented by the government.

So I’m booking for myself and my colleague at the Sheraton Grand Warsaw, which will also allow me to visit a new hotel and therefore write a new review here.

The day after booking, I receive an e-mail from the reception manager informing me of the restrictions in force and asking for proof of travel reasons, which I promptly send.

I then noticed that my reservation had been upgraded to a Deluxe Suite, and that my colleague’s to a Junior Suite – perfect!

Two days before my arrival, I complete the mobile check-in formalities on the Marriott Bonvoy app.

Arrival

I arrive at the hotel after a difficult ride in an Uber, following my flight from London, due to the thick snow covering Warsaw in the early afternoon.

It took us a couple of tries to reach the hotel access road, but we finally did.

IMG_0333
We’ve arrived safely

As I enter the lobby, it seems completely deserted. In any case, the decor is thoroughly modern, in keeping with the new Sheraton Grand concept.

The elegant lobby of the Sheraton Grand Warsaw

I’m immediately greeted by the two receptionists, who welcome me by name. Impressed by this recognition.

IMG_0355
The renovation is very beautiful

The receptionist confirms my reservation, its duration, and tells me that I’ve been assigned an upgrade to a Deluxe Suite. She also tells me that the catering will be room service only.

IMG_0357
The bar, though friendly, is closed

As a Platinum member and above, I have access to the Sheraton Club, but as it’s closed, it will be served in the room as well, for all services (breakfast and happy hour).

Finally, I choose points as a welcome benefit, with breakfast automatically included as part of my club access.

In an instant, I’m in the elevators heading for my room.

Room

The suite I was assigned was located on the 3rd floor of the property. The corridors are very, very long, and my suite is right at the end of them.

This Deluxe Suite is really beautiful, and very spacious.

IMG_0338
The suite’s front door

A small bathroom is located just off the entrance for any guests.

IMG_0336
The small bathroom has a washbasin…
IMG_0337
And toilets for guests
IMG_0347
A single basin is all you need in this bathroom, decorated with Le Grand Bain products.

Then there’s the lounge area, with a large, elegant sofa, armchair and coffee table, plus a full dining table. A TV completes the space.

The relaxation area is very pleasant
IMG_0342
A small welcome service, based on apples, was placed on the dinner table.

On the other side, a large desk allows you to work serenely and comfortably.

Welcome literature now disposable

The night area of the suite is separated by a door. This space is also very pleasant.

The king-size bed is the brand’s new, very comfortable model. The lighting is beautifully crafted and pleasing. A large closet borders the bed, as does an armchair and a bedside seat, all of which are highly relevant from a decorative point of view.

The bed, a novelty from Sheraton, is very soft and comfortable.

An armchair and television face the bed

A large bathroom with bath and shower is also available.

The bath (which I wouldn’t use) and shower are side by side

This second bathroom is also equipped with a toilet.

A very beautiful and comfortable suite.

Finally, the video tour:

Hotel facilities

The hotel is equipped with a fitness room, located in the basement of the property, which I will be using intensively during this stay.

IMG_0364
Everything is designed for user comfort

It is very well equipped, with numerous machines, but also with a large room for free exercise.

IMG_0366
Some body-building machines
IMG_0369
The rest of the equipment, very comprehensive
IMG_0368
Some treadmills
IMG_0367
And more cardio machines

I’ll hardly see anyone there.

Food options

As mentioned in my introduction, the hotel’s catering service is room service only. I’ll make the most of it during my stay.

Room service for dinner

I ordered a few room service dishes for dinner. In this case, two items on the restaurant’s menu: beef carpaccio and bufala mozzarella. Good, but not exceptional.

IMG_0007
The carpaccio, disgusting
IMG_0008
Ditto for the mozzarella di buffala, which was not very tasty without balsamic vinegar.

Above all, the slightly too intense use of balsamic vinegar makes the dish sickening.

IMG_0376
I did, however, order a club sandwich at lunchtime, which was delicious.

Room service breakfast

Room service breakfast is ordered in the usual way, by hanging the breakfast menu on the door handle the day before.

The breakfast menu I’ll be using every evening for the next morning

I ordered a full breakfast a few mornings.

Sheraton Club happy hour room service

As the club lounge is closed, the happy hour service is provided by room service.

IMG_0351
The Club is theoretically located on the 6th floor.
IMG_0350
This floor, like the others, can only be accessed by swiping your room card.
IMG_0352
Access to the club floor is also locked, in addition to elevator access control.
IMG_0354
It is unfortunately closed

Room service calls the room before service to ask what the customer would like to drink. Then, at the requested time, a room service tray with your drinks and a snack arrives… Well, a snack, how can I put it… A real dinner, look instead…

The tray brought in on the first evening… Hard to swallow anything else after that!
IMG_0009
After the effort, the comfort!

The drinks were well proportioned, and the snacks quite good.

IMG_0381
The second evening, perfect again (note the whole bottle of wine brought along).

I took advantage of it every night of my stay, and rarely ordered additional room service.

Departure

Departure formalities were straightforward. Having booked a car to take me to the airport through the hotel, this was indeed charged on the bill. This invoice was immediately sent to me by e-mail.

IMG_0396
The hotel car was waiting for me on time to take me to the airport.

Bottom line

An excellent stay in every respect. The staff are lovely, the upgrade perfect, and so is the in-room club service. Nothing to complain about, for a modest price!
