Who hasn’t checked the contents of their suitcase 10 times to make sure they haven’t forgotten anything, only to realize once they’ve arrived at their destination that something essential has been left at home?
A question of organization, a question of habit, a question of character… we’re all unequal when it comes to packing our suitcases before leaving on a trip.
Packing: the stressful part of leaving on a trip
For some, it takes days of preparation; others, like me, do it almost mechanically with eyes closed on the morning of departure, no matter how long the journey.
There are those who never forget anything, those who always forget something. For my part, I systematically forget something secondary that’s easy to buy again, like toothpaste or contact lens solution. When it’s the charger for your computer, it’s more regrettable, but when you have to buy a new suit on the spot, it becomes really complicated.
Everyone has their own way of making sure they don’t forget anything, and up until now I’ve had a fairly rational method that has proved its worth so far, and which I’ll be presenting to you shortly, as it complements what I’m about to tell you quite usefully.
Packpoint: the saviour of the forgetful traveller.
Packpoint is an application available on iOs and Androïd that will help you forget the stress of packing.
To begin with, enter your destination, the period and duration of your trip, and the type of travel (business or leisure). Then select the activities you’ll be doing during your trip. You also specify whether you are the type of person who uses the hotel’s laundry service.
Packpoint then suggests a typical list of things to take with you, based on your criteria, your activities and the weather at your destination….
The list is very comprehensive, from clothing to medicines or suncare products, not forgetting your phone charger…
Depending on your taste, you can of course add or remove elements, or change the quantities.
But you can also go a step further and customize the proposals. To do this, you’ll need the Packpoint premium version, which costs €3.49.
What does Packpoint premium offer?
Packpoint premium lets you create your own sample lists, modify the elements proposed for certain activities, create your own activities with the elements you want…
You can also connect Packpoint to your Tripit account to automatically import a list of future trips, or link it to Evernote for some obscure reason.
Bottom line
Packpoint is a practical and indispensable application for everyone. For the frequent traveler who can switch to “autopilot”, for the occasional traveler who’s always afraid of forgetting something, for parents who need to pack for the whole family and think about everyone’s needs.
There are plenty of gadget apps for travelers that you can happily do without, but even if packing is something you do almost without thinking, the TravelGuys consider Packpoint a must-have!
And if, apart from suitcases, your greatest fear is the risk of air crashes, there’s an app for that too.
