Lufthansa Business Lounge, Detroit: Nice Décor but Worn Out and Poor Catering

After two days of hard work in Michigan, it’s time to head home for a well-deserved week’s vacation. But it’s not going to be a smooth ride…

Check-in and ground experience

I completed the check-in for my flights on American Airlines 24 hours before the departure of my first flight.

I received my boarding passes in both PDF and Passbook formats, and everything seemed fine until I went to bed… Upon waking, I found multiple notifications and an email from American Airlines informing me that my first flight to Philadelphia had been canceled and I had been rebooked… 12 hours later!

I quickly rebooked myself on JetBlue, a one-way ticket costing over $550, but at least it would get me home at the same time!

I checked in online immediately afterwards.

I arrive at Detroit airport’s Evans terminal just under 3 hours before flight departure. I pick up a paper boarding pass from a machine and use the CLEAR line to get through TSA screening.

Localisation, accès et accueil

The Lufthansa Business Lounge is located near gate B5 and is accessible with Priority Pass or Star Gold status.

The reception was professional but not overly warm, and after verifying my eligibility, I was welcomed into the lounge.

Lounge design

The lounge design, well, how to describe it… Just like every other Lufthansa lounge. It could be in Dubai, Munich or Singapore and you’d feel the same. , with identical furniture and similar buffet offerings.

The space is divided into two sections: a relaxation area and a restaurant. These are in fact the two former Business/Senator sections, which no longer exist.

On the right, there’s the lounging area with coffee, soft drinks, and alcoholic beverages, while the dining section is on the left.

Catering

The food and beverage offer is extremely poor, with, at the time of my visit, a breakfast of mediocre quality. Even the spirits are of low quality, with even a no-name Whisky cream instead of Baileys… We’ve hit rock bottom!

Bottom line

Still better than waiting in the boarding terminal, but far from being the ideal lounge experience.
