For my layover in Charlotte, and to switch things up a bit, I decided to visit the American Express Centurion Lounge.
Location and welcome
The lounge is located between concourses D and E at Charlotte airport. Access is via an elevator that takes you up to the lounge’s reception area.
Although the Amex app showed the lounge as “full,” I didn’t have to wait before being admitted at reception. I had to present my American Express card, boarding pass, and ID to gain entry.
Despite the busy environment, the reception was very warm, and we even exchanged a few words about the Olympics, as my French passport caught the receptionist’s attention.
Lounge design
The design of the lounge is well-executed, but I must admit, the overcrowding prevented me from taking any decent photos or fully appreciating the décor. There are multiple areas for dining and lounging, but moving around was difficult due to the large number of passengers and their luggage.
Catering
The food offering is of good quality, with a complete breakfast selection that later transitioned to an appetizing lunch menu—although I forgot to take photos this time. I took advantage of the offerings to have a light meal before boarding my flight to Detroit.
Bottom line
A well-appointed lounge, but the overwhelming crowd made the experience quite unpleasant.
