With a Swiss return flight to Zurich and then Paris leaving at 1:47 am from Dubai, I had plenty of time to kill time in the airport’s Lufthansa Senator lounge.
Location of the lounge
It is located in Terminal 1, hall D, after the controls and the shuttle. When leaving the shuttle head for the duty-free stores and follow the signs. It is located in the mezzanine above the stores, with all the other lounges in the terminal.
Its location will force you to walk a little or a lot to reach your boarding gate, but all the lounges in the terminal are in the same situation.
Hey on our way we find a known place a few meters from our destination.
You can’t say that walking down the sad corridors that lead to the lounges is an experience in itself, but you can’t go wrong when you arrive at the door.
Who has access to the lounge
The lounge is divided into two areas to which the reception staff will direct you.
A business lounge for business class passengers of Lufthansa, Swiss and Star Alliance airlines.
A “Senator Lounge” for Star Alliance Gold members (including those traveling in business class).
The lounge
As you saw with the entrance, nothing looks more like a Lufthansa lounge than another Lufthansa lounge and this one is no exception.
Once the reception is passed, we find ourselves in a room of modest size (but there is the business lounge next door) composed of three zones without physical separation: the buffet, a restaurant zone and a relaxation zone.
The first thing I notice when I get home is the smell of food coming from the kitchen, but it will fade afterwards. Not great for a first contact though.
Here is the restaurant area with tables for eating and the relaxation area with comfortable armchairs. Not surprisingly, we find the furniture typical of all Lufthansa lounges and, in the background, a large luminous image representing a forest that can also be found in some of the airline’s lounges.
No surprise then, it’s sober, not flashy or fancy, even a little old-fashioned, but it does the job.
The dining area is composed of tables but also stools and a counter for those who prefer or are alone.
The relaxation area :
There is also plenty of space to lie down in a quiet area.
Finally, despite its modest size, this lounge has a very interesting capacity. At a late hour like this it wasn’t too full, on the other hand it’s rush hour for flights to Europe so I conclude that there weren’t many Star Alliance Gold that day. I fear that even when full it is quite noisy due to the lack of space and separation.
Bad point for the seat plugs: if they have USB they are not multistandard and you will need an adapter.
An area a little out of the way allows you to isolate yourself to work.
Nothing to say about the cleanliness of the toilets.
Food
The buffet is quite complete and varied.
Cheese and vegetables:
Sandwiches…
Hot dishes rather good and which “calms” well…
Bread.
And as always at Lufthansa…. sweets!
As for beverages, it’s quite complete too…
Water and fruit juice…
Soft drinks and beer, lots of beer!
Alcohol
And a fairly good selection of wines
The staff
Friendly at the reception but for a brief and minimalist interaction, we had no further contact with them.
On the other hand, the handler’s staff in the lounge was omnipresent: the buffet was restocked very frequently and the tables were cleaned very quickly.
Bottom line
Between the size of the lounge, the smells when arriving and the not very cheerful (but very comfortable) furniture found in all Lufthansa lounges, I told myself that for once I was going to miss an Air France lounge, in this case the very nice Skyteam lounge at Dubai airport located just a few meters away.
Finally it went well. It was comfortable, not too crowded, and the food offering was good. But the Skyteam is still much more attractive.
A good lounge that does the job without being exceptional either.
