After a few days in my wife’s hometown and a slightly delayed train journey from Debrecen, we spent a few days in the Hungarian capital before heading back to Boston.
As a reminder, here is the itinerary followed:
Booking
I booked this hotel at the same time as we booked our flights. Given our excellent experience last time, it was obvious that we wanted to stay at the Matild Palace. So we did again for the second part of our stay in the Hungarian capital, and for just over €250 a night.
Like last time, I used a Suite Night Award to secure a suite in the hotel. The upgrade will be confirmed when the window opens on D-5 of arrival.
Arrival
We arrived at the hotel around 4pm and our luggage was taken care of immediately. We headed for reception, where the receptionist checked us in and recognized us from our previous stay. The check-in process was very quick and courteous, and we were soon on our way to our suite.
Suite
Like last time, our suite was located on the 3rd floor of the hotel.
Although it was the same category of suite, it was located on the opposite side of the hotel. I much prefered this configuration, as it’s much brighter.
As soon as you enter, there’s a large closet on the left, and the minibar and coffee machine opposite. Between our two stays, however, the minibar had become chargeable… or at least nothing had been said about whether it was free or not.
Then there was the huge living room, with a large relaxation area, a dining table and a welcome gift of a real bottle of Cattier champagne.
A large desk, which I made good use of, was located to one side.
Next came the sleeping area, separated by French Doors that opened onto a huge king-size bed, very comfortable but much less so than the one at the Ritz-Carlton we had tried out a few days earlier.
The huge bathroom, accessible from the sleeping area, was very elegantly decorated. The Acqua di Parma Blue Mediterraneo toiletries were of excellent quality.
Truly one of the most beautiful rooms I’ve ever had the pleasure of staying in.
Finally, a video tour:
Hotel facilities
The hotel boasted an extensive spa and fitness room, which we did not have the pleasure of visiting this time, but you can find the photos in the previous report.
Catering
The hotel boasted a number of food and beverage outlets, including Café Matild, Spago (reported separately) and The Duchess (also reported separately).
Breakfast – Café Matild
Breakfast was served on the mezzanine floor of Café Matild, located on the second floor of the hotel.
The buffet was of high quality and the service was very attentive.
Service
Service at this hotel was absolutely excellent. Except probably on the rooftop.
Departure
Departure formalities were very simple and courteous, despite our very early start.
Bottom line
An excellent stay, nothing to complain about.
