Connection and ground course
I arrived in Frankfurt at Terminal A and left from Terminal B, and anyone who knows the place knows that it’s going to be a long walk.
So I take the lifts, then the famous and very long travelator, then the lifts again…
Surprisingly, the e-gates are closed for police checks.
But the check at the booth will only take a minute. So here I am in the terminal.
I read a lot of positive and less positive things about this airport but I begin to have used it a lot and I have to admit that even when the gates are very far away, there are controls to go through and the connection is short, it always goes well and without stress. This is what I call an efficient airport, and you will see on the return flight that even when the connection is more than short, it is still ok…
Another good point is that I did not have to go through any security checks to enter the non-Schengen zone.
No visit to the lounge this time: my phone starts ringing and I will spend the rest of my time dealing with a work emergency.
Boarding
For a 14:00 departure, boarding is announced at 13:00, in my opinion because this is the standard for long-haul flights, which seems a bit much for our A320 Neo. Indeed, if a passport pre-check is carried out around 1.30 pm, boarding will only start at ….1h50.
Even more surprising (but common on Lufthansa) is that 10 minutes will be enough to board everyone. So we will leave on time.
The A320 Neo Lufthansa business class cabin
We find the good old NEK seat. It’s still as thin as ever, hence its ironing board nickname, but it’s no worse than what you’ll find elsewhere and has plenty of legroom.
The middle seat will logically be neutralised in business class and there are still no power sockets or USB ports.
There are 4 rows in the business cabin but occupancy will be sparse.
And we are ready to go.
The flight and the service
We leave on time and the take-off is an opportunity to take some nice pictures of Frankfurt airport.
After a few minutes the service begins. The meals are brought to us but the staff don’t even bother to remove the lids on the dishes.
That’s once I’ve done the flight attendant’s job.
I often say that in medium haul on Lufthansa the presentation may not be appetising but the food is often very tasty and this meal will be the exception that proves the rule.
The presentation is correct without more, the quantities very light and the dish rather insipid. Except for the salmon, even with the sauce it has absolutely no taste (the yellow things you see on the plate are like cold omelettes). It looks like something too refrigerated, just out of the fridge… in short, an Air France medium-haul business class meal.
Only the chocolate mousse will be decent.
The flight continues without a hitch…
The staff
Pleasant but a little below what I am used to on Lufthansa. Don’t even bother to remove the lids on the dishes, no refill offered… In short, we can say that the meal was a failure in its entirety.
Arrival and disembarkation
We start our descent and the ground is soon in sight.
Does anyone know about this castle that you can see when you arrive at Heathrow?
I’m not on the right side of the plane to do some spotting on the landing, that’s for the return trip.
We arrive 15 minutes ahead of schedule and the entry into the UK will be as smooth as possible thanks to the many e-gates available.
Bottom line
I won’t say it was a bad flight, but it was well below Lufthansa’s standards: a little on service, a lot on food.
