London-Frankfurt in business class on Lufthansa: the same old story

There is nothing more like a Lufthansa flight than another Lufthansa flight, because if there is one thing that characterises this airline it is consistency in service. This flight from London to Frankfurt is an excellent example.

So here I am, ready to return to Paris after a weekend with friends in London and I will be flying business class on Lufthansa via Frankfurt. A flight that is nothing special except that it had better leave and arrive on time as I have a very short connection in Frankfurt before heading back to Paris.

For the record, here is a reminder of the articles on this trip to London

Check-in and ground experience

I arrive well in advance to take the time to test the Singapore Airlines lounge.

Having checked-in online I go straight to the security checks which, although the queue is long, will be passed quickly. It’s been a very long time since I’ve been back to the UK and I didn’t miss the friendliness of the staff at the controls. A German passenger angrily challenged one of them to be polite and not to insult people.

Here I am airside.

So I head for the lounge, which I will leave 20 minutes before boarding due to the distance to walk.

Boarding

When I arrive at the gate people are still seated and no one is rushing to board.

We were asked to line up at the scheduled time, but in the end we boarded 20 minutes late. With Lufthansa I’m not too worried as I know their boarding is generally very well organised and fast but given my very short connection in Frankfurt I hope they live up to their reputation.

The boarding begins at last and I am the second to take the gangway.

The cabin

There’s the traditional Lufthansa cabin with its NEK seat.

IMG_4194

The seat is quite thin but not more uncomfortable than the competition, at least not at Air France. The middle seat will be neutralised in business class and I still deplore the lack of USB ports and power sockets.

The pitch is always very good at the front of Lufhansa’s medium-haul aircraft.

There will be 5 business class rows on this flight.

Not surprisingly, despite the delayed start of boarding, we will leave on time. I can only hope that for once in Frankfurt we won’t disembark by bus and I should get my connection.

The flight and the service

We leave on time and line up on runway 27R.

Since this is a very ordinary flight, I’ll add a video of the take-off.

The cabin is not full and the atmosphere is rather relaxing.
IMG_4202

The service begins and I am served exactly the same tray as on my Paris-Frankfurt flight the day before yesterday.

IMG_4203

So I will make exactly the same comments. Even if the appearance can be off-putting for a French clientele, it is very good and tasty!

The middle seat being neutralised, I take the opportunity to make myself comfortable and watch my current series while eating (if you read the review of the outbound flight, you will have noticed that I finished season 2 of Slow Horses during the weekend and that I am now starting season 4 of Fauda, which I absolutely recommend…)

The flight continues without a hitch and the staff will give me two more glasses of wine before the descent begins.

The staff

Not much to say about such a short flight. Efficient and smiling crew, I don’t ask for more.

Arrival and disembarkation

Shortly after we started our descent the German landscape appears…

Then it’s the arrival in Frankfurt, again on video.

We land on the 25R as usual which means a very long drive to the terminal. But, for once, we will be parked at the gate and avoid a bus deplaning. Good, because we are 7 minutes late.

It’s 4.07pm, my flight to Paris boards at 20 and I have to go through immigration again and cross the airport (we arrive at concourse B and I leave from concourse A of terminal 1). Will I catch my flight? You will find out in the next episode.

Bottom line

A flight like many others on Lufthansa with good service and catering and a comfortable cabin. I only expected it to arrive on time and it (almost) did.
