For our extended stay in the economic capital of the United Arab Emirates, we chose to stay at a new Marriott family hotel located in Jumeirah Village Circle, a developing area of the city, roughly equidistant from Dubai Marina and Downtown. A look back at a half-hearted stay.
Booking
I booked this stay several months before arrival through the Marriott Bonvoy app.
Ever since we had a child, we have systematically booked either connecting rooms or suites with a clear separation between the living room and the bedroom.
In peak season, it is difficult to find suites at a reasonable rate in popular luxury properties, so we ended up choosing this relatively new hotel for around $130 per night before taxes. An absolutely unbeatable rate. .
Arrival
We arrived after around 45 minutes from the airport with our Sixt transfer.
We were welcomed by the valet team, who took care of our many pieces of luggage, and completed check-in formalities, which were handled quickly. We were informed that we had access to the Executive Lounge on the 6th floor of the hotel, which has extensive opening hours and offers both breakfast and happy hour service.
Suite
Our suite was located on the 35th floor of the hotel.
It opened directly onto the living area, furnished with a sofa, a coffee table, and a desk. For our little one, the hotel had installed a teepee, which was a nice touch but not particularly safe.
A bathroom was connected to the living area and allowed us to wash all of our baby equipment. The travel cot was set up in the living room space.
Extending from the living room was the bedroom, unfortunately not separated by a door, something we would bitterly regret, featuring a very large bed that was sadly not very comfortable.
A very large wardrobe was available, which allowed us to unpack all of our clothes for our nearly three-week stay.
Large floor-to-ceiling windows offering beautiful unobstructed views of Downtown and the Marina were the highlight of this suite.
Finally, a generously sized bathroom completed the suite.
The real issue, however, was the constant noise from the surrounding construction works, which went on every night of our stay until very late.
To conclude, here is the video tour:
Hotel Amenities
The hotel features a fitness room and a swimming pool, both located on the second floor.
While I did not use the fitness room, we used the pool several times with my son and my wife.
Pool
The pool is located on the second floor of the property. A towel service is available, and the attendants help guests get settled. There is also a pool bar/snack service, which we used a few times.
Beach
The hotel has access to a private beach at one of its partner hotels on Palm Jumeirah. Guests can use it, and a complimentary shuttle takes you there. We made use of it once.
Food & Beverage
The dining offering was acceptable, and we ordered room service a few times in addition to having breakfast in the Club Lounge.
Club Lounge – Breakfast service
We had breakfast every morning in the Club Lounge. It was pleasant, but an unpleasant dishwasher smell was the first thing that hit you when entering the space.
The buffet was of good quality, but it never, or almost never, changed.
Club Lounge – Happy hour
We enjoyed the Club Lounge happy hour on some evenings, and the offering there was also of good quality. Drinks were served generously.
Service
The service was good but relaxed. This is not a true five-star property, but everything was perfectly decent.
Departure
Check-out formalities were simple, and the bill was accurate.
Bottom line
A good-quality stay overall, even if we will only return once the construction works are over.
