Ahlan First Lounge, Dubai International: A Shame the Qatar Lounge Is Closed!

It was with a touch of emotion and sadness that we began our return journey to Boston, with this first stop at Dubai International Airport.

Check-in and ground experience

We checked in for our flight online 24 hours before departure via the Qatar Airways website. However, as a passport verification was required, we only received check-in confirmations.

After a transfer with Sixt, we arrived at the airport a little over three hours before our flight to Doha, at Terminal 1.

The check-in area has clearly not evolved and is really unworthy of the rest of the airport.

The Business Class check-in counters were empty, and we completed the formalities, which took a little time given all of our luggage.

We then headed to immigration, then security, and finally to the packed train leading to the departure pier.

Location and Welcome

Like all lounges in Terminal 1, this one is located on the mezzanine level of the departure pier.

Ironically, it sits adjacent to the former Qatar Airways lounge, which has been closed since 2017.

The welcome was excellent, and we were invited to enter the lounge.

Design

The lounge design is fairly basic and features several areas for relaxing and dining.

A spa is available, although we did not make use of it during our visit.

There is also an impressive playroom, and my son went there to burn off some energy before the flight.

Food & Beverage Offering

The food offering is decent and combines a buffet with an à la carte selection of freshly prepared dishes.

I ordered the Eggs Benedict, which was satisfactory.

Bottom line

A perfectly decent lounge, comfortably in the upper mid-range of multi-airline lounges.
