The Notary Hotel, an Autograph Collection Hotel, Philadelphia: very nice establishment but catastrophic check-in

For my second night in Philadelphia, I chose to stay at the Notary Hotel, an Autograph Collection located not far from the W in which I slept the previous night.

Booking

I booked this establishment a few days before my last-minute business trip, using the Marriott Bonvoy app.

I used my company’s corporate code and made the reservation for just over $200 a night, which is quite reasonable for a weekday stay in a major US city.

Arrival

I check in at the hotel two days before my arrival. I don’t notice any particular upgrades until I actually arrive at the hotel.

I arrive at the hotel at the end of the afternoon, around 4:30 pm, walking about 5 minutes from the W.

I go through the formalities, which are carried out without any passion. I take the points as a welcome benefit, having to leave early to catch my flight.

Soon I’m on my way to my room.

Suite

Suite… Yes, because even though I hadn’t been told (and the application hadn’t updated), I’d be staying in a suite! I was upgraded to a Signature suite, the hotel’s highest category!

The entrance leads into a spacious lounge area, also equipped with a desk. A kitchenette has also been set up near the front door.

Next comes the sleeping area, with two spacious washbasins to the right of the door. Opposite is the shower room, with a fairly narrow shower and toilet. A closet also faces the toilet basins.

Finally, on the left, the sleeping area with a comfortable king-size bed and a chaise longue by the window.

Overlooking an inner courtyard, the suite is not very bright.

Hotel facilities

The hotel has a fitness room, which I won’t be using during my stay.

Catering

The establishment features a main dining point, Sabroso + Sorbo, which acts as both bar and restaurant for morning and evening. Leaving early the next day, I couldn’t test the breakfast offer.

Dinner service – Sabroso + Sorbo

For dinner, I book on Opentable a table for 1 at the hotel’s Spanish-inspired restaurant, Sabroso+Sorbo.

I’m proactively installed. The service will be quick without being warm.

I’ll have the grilled octopus, which will be good without being exceptional.

Service

The service will be fairly indifferent, as it is now everywhere in the United States and whatever the category of the hotel.

Departure

Check-out formalities will be simplicity itself, as I’ll be using the mobile check-out features of the Marriott Bonvoy app.

Bottom line

A pleasant stay thanks to the hard product, but the soft product is clearly not up to scratch.
