American Airlines Domestic First, Washington Reagan – Philadelphia, Canadair CRJ900: old-fashioned aircraft, new cabin

Second leg of my itinerary to Philadelphia, this time operated in a regional aircraft I don’t really like, the CRJ900.

Boarding

I leave the lounge about 10 minutes before boarding my flight to Philadelphia. The gate is adjacent to the lounge and I’m immediately at the gate.

I’ll wait in front of the priority line, and boarding will begin on time with the passengers in Group 1, of which I’ll be one.

I’ll be one of the first on board. At the bottom of the gangway, I’ll have to drop off my cabin baggage, as the overhead bins are too small for standard-size able-bodied cabins.

Cabin and welcome

The welcome is charming and I enter this relatively large First cabin for the size of the aircraft, with 4 rows configured with 1-2 recliners.

The seats are comfortable and I settle into my seat, 02A. A welcome drink is offered and I take a glass of sparkling water, which is promptly brought to me.

Service and catering

At the very end of boarding, the in-flight beverage order is taken and I order a sparkling water.

This was promptly brought to me, but before I could even finish my glass, the descent began!

Note the superb take-off over Washington, with the Pentagon clearly visible.

Arrival and disembarkation

We arrive at the gate a few minutes early, and I’m soon at the SEPTA station, which takes me into the center of town in about thirty minutes!

Bottom line

A short but pleasant flight with a relatively recent cabin, despite the age of the aircraft.
