After a short stay in New York, I reach JFK airport in the late afternoon for my flight, which leaves in the early evening.
I use the LIRR and Airtrain to reach the airport from Penn Station.
A little tip: using the MTA app saves you almost 50% off the price of the ticket, with no additional conditions.
Check-in and ground experience
I check in 24 hours before departure using the American Airlines app. I receive my Passbook boarding pass immediately.
On the day of departure, when I arrive at JFK terminal 8, I go to the First check-in area shared with British Airways, and get a paper boarding pass.
I then make my way to the TSA checkpoint, which, as usual in the afternoon, is jam-packed and bloody messy! It takes about thirty minutes to get through.
Location and welcome
The lounge is located on the mezzanine of terminal 8’s first boarding pier, on the right after the security checkpoint: stairs and elevators provide access, and its entrance is adjacent to that of the Chelsea lounge, reserved for First British Airways and Gold Guest List passengers with international or intercontinental connections.
Lounge design
The design of the lounge is very successful, with its mix of dark woods, velvet and leather. It offers a splendid view of the tarmac.
Various areas are available: lounging, dining or working.
I’ll be sitting at one of the high tables available to work and eat.
Catering
The catering offer is fairly extensive, with various cold buffets, a fairly high-quality hot buffet and a dessert buffet.
An à la carte and à la place catering service is also available, but I won’t be taking advantage of it this time.
Bottom line
A pleasant stay, with a comfortable and bright lounge, what more could you ask for?
