For this short stay in New York, I decided to go to one of my favorite sushi restaurants, The Lobster Club, located in Midtown near Park Avenue.
The concept
The concept is quite simple: a restaurant serving excellent Japanese cuisine in a trendy, designer atmosphere.
The setting
The setting is quite successful, in rather festive but elegant tones.
The menu
The menu is short, with typically Japanese dishes, mixed with some creativity on certain rolls, but always in fairly conventional tastes. And on this particular evening, that’s exactly what I was looking for.
The meal and the dishes
First, I’ll order a Japanese whisky to wash down my meal.
Then a couple of nigiri, one with wagyu beef and one with otoro fatty tuna, as well as the Tuna Roll I’m particularly fond of, topped with pan-fried foie gras and grated white truffle.
A delight, which I’d accompany with warm, well-seasoned edamame.
The service
Although very friendly, the service was very slow, too slow for a single customer for me. To be reviewed.
The atmosphere
The atmosphere is quite festive and cheerful, but without being deafening. On the other hand, you have to like the select atmosphere with bouncers at the entrance. The bouncers are very friendly, but it can be intimidating at first.
Bottom line
A good dinner, which could have been perfected with faster service.
