Review : SAS lounge in Gothenburg Landvetter

A quick stopover at Gothenburg airport for a connection to Frankfurt and then Paris from an excellent flight from Istanbul with Turkish Airlines. A bit of a annoying connection time (too long considering the interest of the airport and too short to go for a walk in the city). Anyway it gave me the opportunity to test the SAS lounge at Gothenburg Landvetter airport.

Who has access to the SAS Lounge at Gothenburg Landvetter?

The lounge is available to Gold and Diamond members of the SAS Eurobonus frequent flyer program, passengers travelling on SAS in SAS Plus or SAS Business, passengers travelling in Business on any Star Alliance airline as well as Star Alliance Gold members

Where is the SAS Lounge in Gothenburg Landvetter located?

Once you have passed through the security checkpoints you walk through or along the duty free area and turn right towards gate 18. The lounge is at the end of the pier.

The advantage of Gothenburg is that due to the size of the airport you won’t have to walk around for long before you find it. Similarly, from security to the lounge and from the lounge to your gate is a 5 minute walk at most, which is really nice.

The layout of the SAS Lounge at Gothenburg Landvetter

The lounge is medium sized but, I think, more than enough for an airport the size of Gothenburg, although I didn’t pass through during rush hour.

At the entrance, there is no reception, the control is done by scanning the boarding pass on the scanner of a portal.

The lounge consists of a first room where the buffet stands, with plenty of room to eat around it.

And finally the lounge area, which is a little more separate and quiet.

I appreciate the brightness of the place (even with the weather of the day), the view on the runways and the very cosy and Scandinavian decoration.

Behind the buffet there is another separate area.

At the time of my visit the lounge was almost empty so it was very quiet and comfortable. And as is often the case with SAS, in a very stylish, welcoming and warm setting. After the Copenhagen, Oslo, Chicago and Stockholm lounges, another good point for SAS on the design and layout of the lounges.

Catering at SAS Lounge in Gothenburg Landvetter

There are two things that are almost invariable in SAS lounges: a very nice design and a rather mediocre buffet.Gothenburg is no exception to the rule.

You will find cold meat and salads…not bad but far from exceptional either. And there is nothing hot.

Cheese, jam and bread…

And that’s it.

As for drinks, the offer is reduced to the strict minimum.

It’s a real shame, especially as the airline has shown us that it can offer excellent services on its long-haul business flights.

One negative point: the smell of food is omnipresent in this part of the lounge and quite disturbing.

Toilets and showers

Nothing to report. The lounge has a (clean) toilet but nothing more. On the other hand it is not a connection airport so the shower is not really justified.

The staff and service at SAS Lounge in Gothenburg Landvetter

Apart from the people in charge of cleaning and filling the buffet, it was discreet, very discreet.

My opinion

A nice lounge for a secondary airport, and certainly the most pleasant and welcoming part of a very unpleasant terminal. It is a pity that the catering offer is so limited.
