Review : Lufthansa First Class Lounge, Munich Terminal 2

Lufthansa has two First Class lounges in Munich in Terminal 2. One in the satellite of the terminal that we have already shown you twice (here and here) and one in the main part that we present to you today.

Who has access to the Lufthansa First Class lounge?

Passengers flying on a Lufthansa or Swiss First flight in first class during the day, whether departing from Munich or with a connection in Munich, on the outward or return journey. HON Circle members of the Miles&More loyalty program have access at their convenience regardless of their class of travel.

Where is the Lufthansa First Class lounge in Munich located?

It is located next to the Duty Free area at the G-H 21 gates, so it is very central and given the layout of the terminal it is both easy to access and, upon exiting, you can quickly reach your boarding gate.

If, like me when I arrived from Paris and connected to Frankfurt, you were connecting in Munich and your flight was parked at a remote stand, a car will be waiting to take you there.

After a relatively short journey we stop at the bottom of the door 21, we go up by the staircase and we enter in the terminal to reach the lounge some meters further.

Here is the entrance of the lounge…. Just go through the door and take the elevator or the stairs to the floor to get to the reception.

Reception where I will be very kindly welcomed. They check that my upcoming flights are well maintained on time, that my suitcase has followed and they reissue my “paper” and crumpled boarding passes because, as the attendant said, “it’s better like that and in addition, in Paris they didn’t give you the beautiful gray and red folder”.

The layout of the Lufthansa First Class lounge in Munich

It is composed in one piece but with screens that separate it into smaller areas giving more privacy and breaking the “station hall” aspect.

Immediately on the left there is the bar and the restaurant to which we will return later.

On your right a lounge area with TV.

IMG_1353

Further on another similar area…but without TV.

IMG_1357

Between the two, because of the Christmas period, there was a small decoration with cakes and chocolates available for free.

IMG_1354
IMG_1355

Further on, there is a small and quiet area where you can lie down in peace.

IMG_1371

Next is the Cigar Lounge, as always in Lufthansa’s First Class lounges. Cigars are not provided so you will have to bring your own or go shopping at the Duty Free store knowing that unlike the First Class Terminal in Frankfurt there is no duty free store in the lounge.

IMG_1372

On the other hand, a nice choice of self-service alcohol to avoid having to get a refill at the bar while enjoying your cigar.

IMG_1373

Everywhere there are glass jars containing sweets, cakes and snacks to nibble on. You can help yourself as much as you like and the staff is always on hand to fill them up.

From there you just have to follow the corridor on the side to reach the toilets and showers, always in a remarkable state of cleanliness.

IMG_1375

Each closed toilet has both a normal toilet and a urinal and are in my opinion larger than some maids’ rooms in Paris.

The lounge also has closed offices for those who want to isolate themselves to work. In each space you will find a suitcase, a coat rack, an armchair, a desk, a screen for some, a tray next to it, and all the necessary plugs to recharge your devices….

And of course I took a picture of one of those without a screen.

IMG_1370

All this is very Lufthansa: clean, sober, premium and not flashy at all.

I had heard people complain that unlike the satellite lounge this one was blind and less pleasant. Not only does it not have huge windows overlooking the runways and planes, but it also does not have a terrace. But it’s not as bad as expected because it’s open to the terminal, which is open to the outside, so it receives daylight even indirectly, unlike the Senator Lounge in Paris for example.

Given its size, I was afraid that it would be noisy and quickly overloaded but it was not, even during rush hour. There are two First lounges in Munich and I think this one must get less traffic than the other one because of its location.

Catering in the Lufthansa First Class lounge in Munich

Like the other First Class lounges and the Lufthansa First Class Terminal, the lounge offers a buffet and a menu. You can help yourself and sit at the table, be served at the table or take your plate and enjoy it elsewhere in the lounge.

IMG_1415

Let’s look at the buffet to start…starting with the appetizers

Appetizer shot-glasses

IMG_1359

A wide variety of appetizing salads

IMG_1360

Cold cuts, salmon, shushi and cheese,

IMG_1361

IMG_1364

It is varied, appetizing and very good.

Hot dishes then…

IMG_1362

The Germans like very much the dishes simmered in sauce what does not always look well like that in picture but there again it is good, tasty and in the event it corresponded well to the needs which aroused the outside temperatures…

And finally fruits, desserts, cakes…

IMG_1365

It is very varied and I repeat, the products are of excellent quality. There is less choice than at the First Class terminal in Frankfurt but not much less and it remains more than adequate.

If the buffet is not to your liking, there is the restaurant menu.

For breakfast

For lunch and dinner

There too it is “lighter” in choice than in Frankfurt but there is more than enough to survive.

Since I still have to go through Frankfurt afterwards, I won’t overdo it even if I had more food than I had planned at the beginning, because I was greedy.

As far as drinks are concerned, there are several bottles of wine in self-service but you can ask for other things that are a la carte. And in general there is the bar that will serve you whatever you wish – hot or cold drinks, alcoholic or non-alcoholic, cocktails – and the staff is always in the lounge to take your orders so that you don’t have to get up.

A huge choice then.

A lighter offer than in other First lounges of the airline but it remains of very good level and there is not only to fill up but to treat oneself.

Staff and service at the Lufthansa First Class lounge in Munich

The reception staff is both professional and friendly which is good to note because in other airlines they know how to be one or the other but never both at the same time.

I didn’t have to use it this time but in the Lufthansa, Business, Senator or First lounges, the staff has a lot of service activity (booking, rebooking, etc.) which is not easy to obtain in other lounges where they mainly do the reception and nothing more!

This is for the reception.

The staff only shows up a little in the lounge to leave the passenger in peace, who can go and ask for help at the reception desk. On the other hand, in the lounge, the bar and restaurant staff are omnipresent to take orders and replenish the buffet or the many candy/cake jars found in the lounge. But always with discretion, efficiency and politeness.

My opinion of the Lufthansa First Class lounge in Munich

A quality service, very solid. Excellent service, very good buffet and restaurant and discreet, friendly and efficient staff.

Afterwards, one can be more critical and say that it is a little smaller than the other First Class lounge in Munich (the one in the satellite), that it is less bright, that it does not have a terrace, that the catering offer is perhaps a little smaller and that, of course, it accumulates all these deficiencies compared to the First Class Terminal in Frankfurt.

This is also true.

But if you judge it intrinsically without comparing it, the performance is very good even though the other two are not better but a little richer.
